New set (4x01 cooldown)
doodles from tonight’s episode of cr4
I have so many thoughts about what hasn't been said about the cr4 characters, and I don't know how to organize them. Today's little detail that I'm rotating furiously in my mind: Not enough people are talking about the fact that Luis describes Azune as "human in appearance."
Anybody who's watched CR for at least a few episodes knows that Matt has a habit of saying "x appears to be y" when he means "x is y." He's done it often enough that the audience translates it more or less automatically. Thing is, I've never heard Luis do this.
Why would he specify that Azune is human "in appearance" unless he wasn't human? And why has he made a point of describing Azune's eyes so carefully? His eyes match the suburst symbols in Wicander and Tyranny's clothes. That couldn't be an accident, could it?
And the tattoo: Have Mercy on Those I Send You. The gods are dead, and archdevils don't deal in mercy - perhaps Azune is old enough to recall a time when the gods weren't dead, and the tattoo was initially a petition to a god of judgement in the afterlife? Maybe he's an Aasimar who was orphaned when the gods died. Otherwise, perhaps he's an agent of one of the archdevils, and Wicander's church is a cult of that archdevil?
I'm so invested. Sooo invested.
Brennan freaking out about the first roll of the campaign being a Nat20, meanwhile Liam:
There are many interactions I'm looking forward to in c4e02:
Thimble and Vaelus, that could be explosive.
Sir Julien and the former/current soldiers who were buddies with Thjazi Fang: Azune, Teor, Kattigan, and Thimble. I assume Julien also fought in the war against the gods and I can't wait to see flashbacks on what he was like during that from both from his and their prospective, because I'm guessing they won't match.
Sir Julien and Thimble. Will we get to see Thjazi's capture in a flashback? Plus, just the drama of putting the person who loved Thjazi most in the same room with the person who hated him the most.
Bolaire and Occtis. They have to know each other already, right? Or maybe they don't? Bolaire seems closer to Hal than Thaisha, so maybe he too hasn't yet met her adopted son protege? But given Occtis is House Tachonis and the circles Bolaire travels in, Bolaire must at least know his family.
Kattigan and everyone who has been at the wake thus far. Who is this guy? What is his deal? It sounds like many of us don't trust him, is there a lore basis for that?
Wicander and Teor. Teor is going to be working for him soon (maybe?), what's that relationship going to be like?
Thaisha/Hal and Thimble. Is Thimble a part of the family? If so, why did Thaisha put a nail, crafted by her family, that warns of the presence of fey or fiend over the front door of Hal's house? Does the nail predate Thimble and Thjazi's partnership? Was Thimble the exception to the apparent wariness around fairy?
Murray and Tyranny. Oodles of opportunities for comedy and awesomeness when these two are at the same table. They're going to be terrible and wonderful together.
Murray and Occtis. Again, opportunities for comedy and awesomeness, but less from them being partners in crime and more from world-wise Murray embarrassing the hell out of a young and maybe sheltered Occtis.
Bolaire and Teor. Place your bets now, do we think they're going to friends, enemies, or utterly indifferent to each other? I say reluctant buddies, and not just because Taliesin and Travis have great chemistry together. Fingers crossed that Chet and Ashton walked so Teor and Bolaire could run.
Hal and Thjazi. We know they loved each other, they were brothers. But what was their relationship really like when Thjazi was alive? Give me some Fang brothers flashbacks please?
There are people who are like "I was not expecting to like c4 like I didn't vibe with c3, which is fair, people like different things!" As a c3 girlie that also enjoyed c4e1, I love all of you for the simple fact that you are very polite in expressing what you do and don't enjoy. You are all so beautiful and perfect.
There are people who are like "Change is hard for me, so while I liked c1/c2/c3, this doesn't feel the same". To these people, I also love all of you with all my heart, whether you get used to the new format or don't, you are always valid.
And then. There are people who are like "Oh, so if the first roll is a nat 20 it means that it is a good campaign, that's why c2 was so good. Now I understand why c3 was... well. We are so back, baby!"
It's not really necessary to be this arrogant while expressing personal enjoyment, you know?
I'm a little worried about the other arrogant people you might encourage to become your friends, one day it might backfire and stop you from telling them you like something while they're shitting all over it like you've been doing. Good luck with that.
When you're done being like "Gneee, this and this sucks, I only like the cool things, that's why I shit on the things I don't like, who cares about what other people feel about the things they enjoy that help them get through the day!" please, do come join the nice people corner, you are ALWAYS welcome.
Because while we might not like the same things, nice people don't insult the things you guys enjoy. We have value and you have value and so the things we all like as human beings have value, and our value as individuals extends to the things we enjoy. Like our hands and legs are attached to our bodies, what we like is attached to our hearts, and the same blood flows in all of it. It's a beautiful, varied, exciting world as long as we respect EACH OTHER and the THINGS that NURTURE our IDENTITIES.
