The Southern Ring Nebula, C74 // Kfir Simon
Discovered by John Herschel (1792-1871) in 1835, the Southern Ring Nebula (NGC 3132) appears to be split into regions by dark dusty filaments. The dust in these filaments condensed out of the expanding gases and will eventually be scattered throughout the cosmos. This planetary nebula is best seen in the autumn skies in the southern hemisphere.
