“Come on, mama. The girls said they’d keep our spot at the counter open for us tonight.” Carson told his wife as they walked down the sidewalk towards the very diner that Bari had worked in all those years ago. The damned thing was still standing, still serving the best fries in Queens, and every time Carson stepped through the door, he felt like he was 24 years old again. Now; however, Bari was standing at his side with her fingers threaded through his instead of on the other side of the countertop, watching him pine after her.
“Your leg feelin’, alright? I wish we had been able to find a closer place to park.” He fussed a bit, his eyes sweeping over his wife as he tried to determine for himself how she was feeling even before she had the chance to answer him.
