By the time Mako leapt off the pedestal - almost a little too early - the snow wasn’t nearly as packed as he was expecting. It felt more like damp sand, and he had to struggle to stay upright on the slippery landscape as he ran toward the snorkels. He was already feeling as if he was overheating, and used one hand to unzip the heavy jacket as he tried to run as fast he could. He could see others in his periphery also running for the mass of snorkels, and he knew better than to stick around for a fight with someone twice his size. He grabbed the first snorkel he saw on the edge of the pile, and was about to take off when he realized someone else also had a hand on it.
