Welcome Home
“Am I staying at Grandma’s all day?” Jackson’s four year old daughter Layne asked as she skipped up to the front door of his parent’s house.
“You are staying at her house all day. Daddy has to go meet mommy for a meeting,” he sighed as he pulled at the tie around his neck. Shutting the trunk to his car, he lifted up the bags that he brought for Layne. Walking up to the door, he sighed again before smiling down at Layne as she frantically rang the doorbell. Layne was his entire world, he would do anything for the little girl. It didn’t help that her mother wasn’t being the nicest person and kept bringing him to court whenever she pleased; this time...child support and their custody agreement. He was doing his best, paying on time and just trying his best to do everything right, but it seemed like at every turn she wanted more money, money he didn’t have.
He put on a smile when his mom opened the door. “Hi..” he said in a low voice as he gave her a hug and kiss on the cheek. Times like these, he was lucky his mother was just around the corner. “You’ll be okay. Just remember what I told you, yeah?” he mom said. He nodded before looking down at his daughter. “I’ll be back later, okay?” Jackson said as he bent down to her giving her the biggest hug he could. “If you guys want some time with you, just call me if you want to keep her for the night. I already told Allie that you guys might take her for a night so don’t worry,” he said trying his best to hide his nerves. “We got it, just keep us updated.” Jackson nodded before giving Layne one more hug before walking out the door.
As he started to get his keys out, Jackson looked up and noticed Mrs. Davis outside. He gave her a small wave before she called him over, “Jackson. I have a few things for you. Some old toys I found laying around. I thought Layne would like them.” Jackson chuckled before walking over, “I’m sure she will. Her imagination is insane,” he followed her up to the steps and waited. Glancing down at his watch, he nodded knowing he had time to get to the court house. Hearing the door open again, he figured it was Mrs. Davis..he wasn’t expecting to stand in front one, “Tess?” he asked raising his eyebrows at her.
