I don't have anywhere else to really put this out into the aether, but this is a blog so why not blog for once?
Re: that last post about AI: Not sure if it applies to the creative fields the same way, but there's also something to be said about how, under capitalism, companies will do anything they can to avoid providing value for other companies, which results in everyone wanting skilled labor but nobody wanting to train up employees to give them those skills. The corporate greed is SO out of control and everyone is so short sighted that everyone is pulling up the ladder even if it shoots themself in the foot. Same (secondary) reason they won't pay people more: even if it means consumer spending power goes up and companies can make more money that way, they refuse, because it mostly benefits other companies and not themselves.
And then AI comes along and now there's an entire generation of entry level jobs being wiped the fuck out, and there will be no replacement for the skilled labor that's needed once people start retiring and dying.
I say this as someone in tech, so of course I know little about the art industry other than artists are woefully undervalued. I don't know how art careers grow or what "entry level" really means for that industry, but I'd imagine besides stealing jobs AI is also stealing the chance to create a professional portfolio? As well as the soft skills learned in the workplace (working within a team, meeting deadlines, negotiating, etc). But I'd imagine there are still parallels there.
