The new maps split the San Fernando Valley into two - the 29th District in the east, where the electorate is mostly Latino and where City Councilman Tony Cardenas has declared his candidacy; and the 30th District in the west and south, where Sherman and Berman are expected to compete against each other. Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Sherman said, "I'm not looking for a fight (and) I'm certainly not looking for a fight against a friend, so the commission lines are not good for Brad Sherman in that sense.
