Honestly, the best looking hand tapes I’ve ever seen. These were in service since 1984 I believe. Perfect stress cones, small compact profile. Everything my apprentice and I took off was perfect. The mesh, the cutbacks, the pencils. I felt bad about cutting them out. Couple of different ways of doing transition splices. First set are built with VC, sweated connectors, and filled with compound. The poly side has a couple of lead sleeves that aren’t wiped but are taped on. The second one is pretty cool. Scotch 70 is used as an oil barrier from the crimped oil stop connector to the lead jacket. Then it’s built like an old hand tape splice with rubber tape. There are shield breaks in the insulation shield layers to prevent oil from damaging the epr based semicon. 4.27.21 at 0130hrs I had an arc flash. I'm not going into the details yet because its still an open investigation. I took a blast to the face and my PPE saved my life. 2 skin grafts, hyperbaric chamber, and breathing treatments. 5.6.21 i was released and went home.
