Fun fact spinning off from my discussion with pentag0nal...
Literally one of my favorite game memories actually stems from the same GenCon as that suckish Buffy game I got into. It was a Supernatural game where the DM was sure that at least a few of us were gonna die. We were even told to tally up what limbs we lost.
Well, as it happens, the monster we were facing liked to specifically target specific individuals for death/dismemberment, and announced its intention to do so by destroying a piece of their personal property. By sheer dumb luck of the dice, it decided on me and wrecked my truck. Since most of my pre-gen character concept was "rich enough to buy their way into the hunter life", this also meant it destroyed the group's truck.
We all collectively rolled high enough on our research skills to realize what we were going up against...and then collectively decided "fuck that."
We then proceeded to use our (mostly mine and the military guy's) resources to load ourselves the fuck up with heavy weaponry. It helped that there was a military base reasonably nearby that we could sneak into. I'm talking grenades. All terrain vehicle. Bazooka. Rocket launcher. And more grenades just for good measure.
Since it was going to go after me first, I got used as bait. The group proceeded to stick me in an open field, take up positions around it, and wait until the monster showed up.
Once it did, we proceeded to light it up. Pretty much my only job was to duck grenades and not die, but it was still fun to watch. Even when it got limbs blown off, the poor thing still tried to target unarmed me as opposed to everyone else filling it full of lead and shrapnel. The monster was supposed to be invulnerable except for a special weapon that we hadn't had time to get, but after scoring a couple of plot-point induced criticals with a rocket launcher, and finally shoving an ALICE vest full of grenades onto its head, the GM finally shrugged and went "you know what? That is very dead."
No deaths. No lost limbs. So much whooping and high-fiving. Best session.
