I've been working on a collection of Mishima mugs! They will be posted in my @etsy shop on Monday October 28 11am PST! When the mug body is leather hard (firm yet still soft enough to carve) I draw the outline of the #cactus & #peony #flowers using a sharp pin tool. Then I filled the lines with black underglaze, allowed it to dry, scraped off the excess glaze with a metal rib, and cleaned it up with a clean sponge. The mugs dried and were buisqued fired. Then I painted each flower, leaf and cactus with colorful @amacobrent #celadonseries glazes that have a #watercolor effect if you layer them. After that I carefully painted wax resist on the design and dipped the mug in a bucket of glaze. The wax keeps other glazes from getting on the design. Finally they were fired a second time to 2200 degree F. It is a very time consuming process but I thoroughly enjoy it and I just love the results. Each is #oneofakind and will not be repeated. #backbaypottery #ceramicstudio #cactusmug https://www.instagram.com/p/B4BJm_DAyJP/?igshid=1m87g4newa0tb
