Cat's Chimerical Creations March Meet the Maker: Colour

With my particular brand of silliness depending on which kind of soft toys I find in thrift shops and at carboot sales, I don't always get to pick a specific colour to work with.

My personal favourites are blues, greens and purples; if I see a little friend sporting one or more of those, chances are he's coming home with me!

No. 21 of #Marchmeetthemaker is 'Favourite Process'. My favourite process is wrapping the wire I use to make my jewellery. I find it so relaxing twisting and manipulating the different thicknesses and styles.

#MarchMeetTheMaker Day 9 Catchup: Trial & Error I often liken our one of a kind combed top batches AKA Elli AUs (for alternate universes) to sketches. They are a low stress way for me to not only use extra dye but also to play with new ideas, colors and techniques. Some of these ideas are refined into new, repeatable core colorways and some are just moments in time that a select few will get to enjoy transforming into handspun. Continuing to engage play and take chances in a low risk format is critical for my artistic mental health. If you are here, you are probably most familiar with my hand screen printed fabrics. Each print begins with my own hand drawings, starting either from pencil sketches or digitally. Every single print from Fireside Textiles has been made by my very own hands! In addition to drawing and printing, I love sewing, embroidery, beading, painting, and photography. Especially if I can incorporate multiple processes together, like sewn pouches with embroidery embellishments.

#bestdecision is today’s prompt for #marchmeetthemaker2022 - tough one. When it comes to my sanity saving creative life, I would have to say my best decision was tea bowls. They are not “hot” sellers. I know most of you would rather I make mugs (big thank you to my tea bowl fans out there! 💜💜💜) But I literally dream of making tea bowls. The way they fit in the shape of my hand to form them, the relaxed wave of the rim, even the way the foot is a handle in a tea ceremony so it needs a gentle curve to hold. Every little part has a purpose and requires attention, right down to the exact angle of the drip line to control the glaze movement. I could not make two the same if I tried. Someday I will do another One Hundred Tea Bowls project. Today's #MarchMeetTheMaker prompt is Hands at Work. This is a poster the fabulous @calyx.design made for me ages ago. I sent him a ton of photos my partner took while I worked and he drew these clear and awesome versions!
