Hemlock watched from a distance. He was never good with kids, not that the Prince was a child anymore, but he was younger than Hemlock. It was clear that the prince and Sam had history. She basically raised him from what she has told him. He couldn’t really understand the bond of raising someone since they were a child, and then choosing to leave them. 

“You alright, Sam?” 

He reached for her hand as she approached him. Thumb rubbing her knuckles as he tilted his head. 

“You know... you don’t really have to come with me, if it hurts this much...”

❝ Well well well~ If it ain’t Sam~❞ The man cooed as he strode up to the woman. He had remembered her from his time at Yuuei. He was unable to see her, sure. But he could never forget the way that aura of hers. She had this air about her that made him know just who she was. They hadn’t gotten along, but she was fun.  ❝ How’ve ya been, hun~? ❞

Hemlock listened as Sam managed to trip over herself. He could have easily caught her, but he didn’t. Trying to hold back laughter as he offered a hand to help her up. 

“Heh, you sure you work for the queen? You don’t seem as graceful as them all up there.” 

He grinned and chuckled at her. She was a strong one and he knew something like tripping and falling over herself wouldn’t hurt her pride. It didn’t stop him from poking fun at her from time to time. Including when she kept coming back to see him.

“Leave me. I’m not going to make it.”

There is a pause and he frowns at her. Pressing his forehead to hers. He can smell the blood pouring out of her. He hates the scent. He used to love it so much. But the way her voice sounds… He breathes in. An arm around her holding her close. A bloodied hand raised to cup her cheek.

❝ Don’t be stupid, Sam… I’m not leaving you behind. And you’re not leaving me… ❞

There was always a possibility of this happening. After all, it was her job. Protecting him. She was always a good fighter. He knew this from experience.

❝ Don’t worry, sweetheart… I’m gonna carry you back and everything is gonna be okay… like always. ❞

A smile. He picks her up like it was their wedding day again. Like the bride he loved most. A delicate hold on her. He was filled with anger and regret. Wanting to tear everything apart for harming her. At a later time, maybe. But she needed him now more than ever.
