Caedicia simplex 30/08/21
#1808 - Caedicia sp
A minute katydid nymph spotted on a small daisy in the Hamel Eco-park. This is the second instar - the first instar would have been even smaller. Ceadicia sp. katydid grow to be quite large, and usually strongly resemble the eucalyptus leaves they prefer.
Lost the original date for this one.
#116 - Common Garden Katydid
Or, at least, the one you get here in Australia. No doubt there are common garden katydids elsewhere in the world, but this is the one we capitalise, dammit.
Caedicia simplex, a common species in Australia and New Zealand, showing off his warning colours, the yellow and pink pattern on its abdomen. The nymphs of this species can be pink, red, or purple.
Seeing this katydid was the only high point of working a 14 hour shift in 44C heat and overalls.
