SANDBLASTING!
Sandblasting disused supermarket branding onto the punty handled pieces. At first I wanted to print decals in vinyl but with all the tiny details and separate pieces I would need I had to knuckle down and do it all myself with electrical tape. The sandblasting gives them this sort of ethereal glow.... happy!
Shelf Installation
Planning to use my studio space for my final artworks, I installed the shelf at standing eye level.
CAEL2049 clear
Compared to the CAST3001 versions I felt these were lacking- due to the slightly more conventional form they don't distribute light in any amazing way and aside from the implicit context of working in glass they don't carry movement and memory so obviously on their own. From here I knew I had to come up with something to take them further.
Cold Working
had real trouble on the flatbed as always. eventually I set up my 8for4-4for4-2for4 system which starts with 8 passes on the flatbed for each increment of 90 degrees, then 4, then 2. I don't think I had figured this out when I was doing these. I also kept accidentally nicking the sides on the flatbed and of course every tiny patch turned into huge trouble as I progressed on the flatbed and linisher.
Wobbly!!
the enemy.
Shelf draft+ wood shop
For supermarket authenticity I measured and recreated an Aldi packing bench in wood. Installation is a part of the process I often forget to plan for until it's almost too late- at least I managed to get this done on time!

2049/ 3001: process notes
process notes: how am i best going to execute the vision. I thought of two alternative methods. I ended up using one in my elective project and the other as a prototype for the grad exhibition. pictured above is the one I used for vessel as a concept.
This was a much more strenuous method but if done right hailed excellent results that really brought together the plastic bag concept with the idea of glass, movement and memory.
