Bird daughter #3 has arrived!
@caelumaviis / akane starters (closed)
It hadn’t been long since the Moby Dick had welcomed a surprise guest. The lone traveler landed on the ship earlier that day, claiming she needed to rest her wings. Luckily for her, the Whitebeard Pirates weren’t exactly known for throwing random women in need overboard, and instead received a rather friendly welcome.
The crew’s strength, and confidence in their strength, played a large part in how they treated strangers on board. There was no need for chains or interrogations when there was almost nothing that could bring them harm. Akane had been on the other side of that not too long ago herself, the ex-marine originally flabbergasted that they would allow her to wander freely.
She slid into the bench across from the wanderer. A large plate of food was in front of the woman and her guitar case rested against the dinner table. “Hey, Asteria right? There’s been a lot of chatter about you.” She greeted, putting a friendly smile on her face. Their conversation was just one of many that filled the large mess hall, everyone’s voices melting into a pleasant ambiance.
@caelumaviis asked: ”Huuuhuhu, ‘tis a mighty fine beast of engineering ya got there!“ Asteria called out as her talons grabbed hold of the balustrade on the Tang‘s upper deck, an appreciative whistle sounding out from her lips. Her wings allowed completely soundless flight, so she liked to alert people of her presence before they startled at the sudden newcomer. The feathers turned into arms that held onto the straps of her backpack, sun-kissed face stretching into a wide smile as she perched in front of the curly-haired woman, holding up her palm in greeting. ”Yo! Is it alright if I rest my arms here for a bit?“
Unprompted
As much as she loved her engine room with its symphony of sounds and the movement of all the pistons and gears, Ikkaku always appreciated when she could get some work done on the Polar Tang’s deck. The fresh air felt wonderful in her lungs, the sunshine was warm on her skin, and the openness of the blue sky was freeing in a way she could never quite put into words. And while the hum and clang of the engine would always put her at ease, the dull roar of the sea was soothing in its own way, like white noise that drowned out the cares of the world.
So she wasn’t expecting an unfamiliar voice to join the calls of seabirds and the rolling waves. The sudden arrival made her jump, though thankfully years of experience kept her hands steady enough to not accidentally yank out the wires she had been fiddling with. Looking over to where the voice had come from, she quickly realized she must have flown onto the ship, and was definitely some kind of bird zoan. Had the flapping of the seagulls masked her arrival?
Well, she seemed nice enough, and if she’d wanted to attack the Hearts, she wouldn’t have announced herself. And if she was trouble, they were surrounded by water. Put the Devil Fruit user at a disadvantage if things went south.
“Sure, you can rest here,” Ikkaku replied, attaching the last of the wires she’d been replacing. Oil was wiped from her hands as she devoted her full attention to the visitor. “Hope you don’t mind me asking your name, though; my captain would be pissed if I invited someone onto the ship who hadn’t introduced herself. He might see fit to throw you overboard. He’s not the most polite guy.” Nodding at the guitar case, she added, “You a musician or something? What’re you doing all the way out here, then?”

some angst -> [meme]
She recalled the woman, from what felt like a lifetime ago. She did not seem to have changed all that much, and to Akane it felt like she was being confronted with a walking, talking, time capsule from a more simpler time in her life. There was a wistful feeling to it all, the Whitebeard pirate being both sad and comforted by the nomad’s presence.
Asteria was welcomed to stay at the Red Hair pirates camp, and it was after the majority of the crew had gotten drunk that evening that Akane was able to open up. Why open up though? She was usually very reserved, even with her father who had made several efforts in trying to bond with her. Was it because Asteria didn’t really matter? Akane didn’t mean it in a cruel way. Asteria just seemed like someone that would continue to come and go. Talking to her meant she’d only have to deal with the embarrassment until the traveler left again.
An unexpected hand came up from around her, pressing Akane’s head onto the other woman’s shoulder. Akane felt her lips tremble before they pursed, keeping her focus on the fire they sat in front of. For all the time that had passed, for all of her growth and new resolve she had forged, the ache in her chest had never healed. It was a deep wound the refused to close, the kind only revenge could satisfy. Perhaps, she was the one that kept it open.

Asteria isn't saying anything. She's simply staring at Apoo while plucking the strings on her guitar, legs crossed on the table in front of her. Her fingers deftly fly over the neck, producing a quick rhythm from South Blue. She cracks a grin at him and presses the palm of her hand over the guitar's belly for a beat, an invitation to join her in the musical fun. { from @caelumaviis! <3 }
He didn’t know who this girl was, but it was safe to assume she knew who she was trying to play with. After all, he was an infamous ‘Worst Gen’ pirate. And he’ll admit, her playing wasn’t half bad. Not many could keep up with his fresh beats, though, so it was rather a challenge. A key-lined grin spread over his face.
“Acoustic hm? Wonder how good you are with them fingers gliding over those strings!” Personally, Apoo didn’t often play guitar. Naturally, his body was easily capable of producing it, but he always went with more... bombastic instruments.
It was odd yet intriguing to see the way this longarm musician played his funky music, it was unpredictable which instrument he’d choose for the job. With each firm pat on the head, the pound of drums resonated. He was a one man band, so this girl better be good if she had any business jamming with him!

“There's going to be a star shower tonight,” Asteria chirped happily from the tree she had taken temporary residence in, adjusting the strings on her battered guitar while one of her legs dangled off the branch of choice. “Clear skies for sailing and making wishes!”
“ Making wishes...? Ah, perhaps... ”
Loki sat upon the grass, gaze calm as they stared up towards the sky, not quite night yet. Not quite to the moon’s highest. They wondered when the star shower would be...Midway through the night? Early? Later? They weren’t sure...Nor did they care to move. They were okay with sitting and waiting. Waiting, being patient was something they were very good at.
“ Where did you learn there would be a star shower, hm? ”

Akane was not one to spend time with strangers, especially after the wars. More often than not, people recognizing her face or noticing her Whitebeard tattoo would just lead to problems. It was why when a lone woman approached her little camp, joining her by the fire that Akane did not give much in terms of a conversation. Her answers were short and ambiguous, and she rarely spared the woman a glance as she kept her focus on the bright flames.
Akane didn’t fear her, and she couldn’t sense any malicious intent either. While she had grown incredibly suspicious of people in recent times, Asteria did truly seem to be just a wandering soul. Her eyes were bright, still full of life as she looked up at the night sky and gazed at the constellations that stared back down at her.
When a silence settled between them, the warm notes of a guitar began to fill it and a sweet voice followed soon after.
It was a song that filled her with longing, placing her in a bit of trance until it ended. “It’s pretty. The song.” She said, looking over and finally taking the sight of the woman in properly. “I think my mom used to sing it to me... Thank you.” How odd for her to mention her mother at all. She rarely did, even with her crewmates. Perhaps Asteria being a stranger made it easier.
