                 It’s     a     defense     mechanism,     being     mean     to     everybody,     a     way     of     keeping     herself     at     bay     and     not     growing     attached     to     anyone     –     tricks     you     learn     from     District     1,     where     brutal     force     isn’t     as     essential     for     victory     as     strategy.     The     truth     is,     Glimmer     doesn’t     even     dislike     the     Careers     from     District     2     –     she     doesn’t     know     them,     she     barely     knows     Marvel,     and     that’s     as     far     as     she’ll     go.     But     alliances     are     alliances,     and     for     the     time     being,     Cato     and     Clove     are     a     good     portion     of     her     ladder     to     victory.

                  Still,     watching     him     train     makes     her     highly     uneasy     –     not     only     because     he’s     stronger     physically,     far     stronger;     but     also     because     the     gleam     in     his     eye     whenever     he     delivers     a     blow     to     one     of     the     training     mannequins     is     something     she     has     never     seen     on     any     of     the     boys     from     District     1.     She     hasn’t     seen     it     in     anyone     at     all,     period.     And     Glimmer     hates,     hates,     hates     to     think     that     she     might     be     scared     of     Cato,     because     that’s     not     something     she     can     afford     to     be.     And     that’s     why     she’ll     be     petty     and     mean     to     him     –     because     it     gives     the     delusion     that     she’s     not     nervous     of     his     skills.

                            “     I     didn’t     think     you’d     want     to     be     compared     to     me,     though.     you     know,     all     girly     and     wearing     a     golden,     see     –     through     dress.     ”     despite     everything     going     through     her     mind     right     now,     she’ll     still     find     herself     adding     such     statement,     sliding     down     to     sit     on     the     ground     by     his     side,     and     she’ll     realize     she’s     being     honest     –     whereas     Cato     is     all     brute     force     and     power     and     terrifying     eyes,     Glimmer     is     pretty     face     and     sparkly     eyes     and     matching     braids.     Cashmere     says     that     can     be     her     primal     weapon     –     think     of     that     victor     from     district     7,     think     of     Johanna     Mason.          Nobody     assumes     she     can     win,     everybody     assumes     her     pretty     face     will     be     an     easy     kill     within     the     Careers,     “     I     mean     …     technically     …     we     are,     yes.     ”     a     pause,     a     moment     of     uneasy     contemplation     –     Careers     volunteer     because     they     have     been     bred     to     win.     And     whether     or     not   she     wants     to     admit     it,     they’re     still     the     same,     “     you     know,     I’m     still     trying     to     figure     you     out.     it’s     a     pain     –     your     brute     boy     aesthetic     doesn’t     match     with     the     way     we’re     talking     right     now,     and     it     bothers     me.     ”     it     makes     her     see     him     as     human.

WORDS REMINISCENT OF PAST ENCOUNTERS CAUSE A SHARP INTAKE OF BREATH THAT’S HELD FOR A BIT TOO LONG. he can’t help himself, knowing it was either prolong giving an answer to compose himself or risk an OUTBURST of opinionated rambling. on more than once he’s been warned against it, the threat of having his tongue CUT out dangled over his head by multiple people, but he always got out of that employment before the threat was ever DELIVERED. not that he feared that when it came to conversing with a TRIBUTE, but that would be the least of his worries. 

knowing cato was BIGGER AND STRONGER than he was, mike came to a valid conclusion; best not to enter ANY sort of confrontation. not that it would be hard; he’d just have to get himself away from the situation, even if it meant ending a training session before he’d actually made any of his usual PROGRESS. hands let go of the rock-lined wall and he drops to the ground, turning to face the tribute from two while he wiped sweat from his forehead, breathing returning to normal as he inadvertently lets out a light SCOFF.

beep beep,,,, let me just say this: i was really indifferent toward glimmer in the book and i straight up didn't like her in the movie bUT then. your blog came around and changed that. the effort you put into your characterization and headcanons is inspiring. i love seeing your thoughts cross my dash. step on me,,
