story:
Saying you ‘love’ coffee is an understatement. You practically lived for coffee. In the morning before work, in the midday not to fall asleep, and at night before bed. Coffee very easily cures your soul.
And due to your love for coffee, you always did your work at a coffee shop. Readily available coffee? Air conditioning with wafts of coffee aroma? Sign me in!
Jungkook, however, is not entirely a fan of coffee, if it weren’t for you. You’d always order him the milkshakes, frappes, iced tea - sweetness that contradicts the bitter; just like you and him.
Today, you had to spend the whole day editing a manuscript for your commissioning editor. You tucked yourself away in the corner most nook of the cafe, your face half buried in your laptop, with some music on your ears… and your third Venti cup. After hours of words strewn on a screen, you lean back and sigh.
“Boo!” you hear behind your neck.
You shoot up, startled, only to see Jungkook laughing.
“You piece of shit!” you say. Jungkook smiles and gives you a kiss on the forehead.
“Hello chocolate chip.” he says, eyeing the empty coffee glasses on your table.
“That bad, huh?”
“I’m almost done anyway.” you say. “I’m hungry.”
“Maybe you should stop working.” Jungkook says with a laugh. “I’m rich enough for the both of us.”
You shoot him a glare.
“I’m no trophy wife.” you say, proudly. “I have a college degree.”
Jungkook laughs and proceeds to get up and order. “Sandwich or cookie?” he asks on his way out.
“Both.”
You shortly go back to your editing when a cheerful - good-looking - barista greets you while cleaning off the table next to yours.
“Hello ma’am.” he says, with a smile, as he spritzes some disinfectant onto the table.
He’s kinda cute, you thought to yourself.
His eyes adorably crinkles when he smiles! And he’s in chinos and loafers too. How classy. Jungkook would never be caught wearing those. And banana-print socks! How-
“I got you three of each because you have the appetite of a T Rex when you’re stressed.” you hear Jungkook say as he put down the tray of sandwiches and cookies next to your laptop, but you hardly hear him as you’re still quite taken with the barista, now three tables away, casually whistling as he puts away empty cups from another table.
Jungkook must have noticed this because he suddenly haphazardly closes your laptop.
“What the hell Guk!” you yell, hurriedly opening the laptop, worried you might lose your progress. “I was almost done!”
“Please, that thing Autosaves.” he says, taking a sip of his latte. “But if you lose whatever that is maybe you can ask your barista for some help.”
Thankfully, you have a habit of repeatedly, almost obsessively, hitting the Save button every few minutes. Your work was fine. Jungkook, on the other hand, wasn’t.
You laugh.
“Oh my God.” you say, in a mocking tone, “The superstar Jungkook, Golden Maknae, Sold Out King, jealous of a barista!?”
“No, I’m not.” he says, barely audible, fumbling over his fancy phone, pretending to be busy.
You continue to laugh. Jungkook always enjoyed you being jealous of fans and female idols.
Now’s your chance to get back at him.
“I mean, he is cute.” you say, further mocking Jungkook’s petty jealousy.
This must have triggered something in Jungkook as he exclaimed, “Cute? That?”
“His shoes don’t even complement those ridiculous socks!”
“Just because it’s not fashionable to you, doesn’t mean it’s not fashionable.” you say, casually, taking a bite of your cookie.
“Yah! Will that guy stay up with you all night just to keep you company while you’re working? Will he give you his jacket when it’s cold? Will he escape practice just to steal a kiss from you?” he muses, annoyed.
“You’re really going there, Guk?” you ask, mildly amused.
“If you want that style then I’ll wear them!” he says, almost angrily.
“Just don’t look at him.”
You took one good look at Jungkook. He was sulking, arms crossed, looking away.
“You are such a baby!” you say, trying to pull him to you. He pushes your arms away.
“Well, you are a baby, but you’re my baby.” you coo, giving Jungkook a peck on the cheek. He smiles.
“Don’t look at someone else, please.” he says, softly, his eyes almost pleading.
“I was just kidding Guk.” you say, locking your hands with his. He gives you a small, soft kiss.
“But you should really consider banana-print socks.”
