Ok. Hold up. I've got a small rant.
Steve Hofmyer. I can't stand him. When I was a kid I used to love listening to him. Me and my dad would listen together and stuff. But this guy that suddenly went all Afrikaans Boer trying to be a political figure of some sort and I can't stand it because, besides the fact that he has absolutely zero training, knowledge or actual experience in working in politics of any kind, all these old traditional afrikaaners have flocked to him. And I'll go listen to Gerhard Styne or something and there'll be a "surprise guest" and of course it's hofmyer and he sings the old SA anthem with a fricken cracking voice and turns he whole thing into a rally of some sort. And it drives me insane. Everytime he gets onstage these traditional afrikaaners cheer and I'm the lone one in the crowd very loudly booing him (I get a lot of dirty looks) like,,,the guy is old and outdated trying desperately to cling to some form of popularity and glory he had in 2002. And the guy doesn't even do any original songs anymore. Bok van Berk released a new single and not even 3 days afterwards hofmyer released a cover of it (inferior one imao) and van Blerk is a singer I actually really do like. I enjoy him. And he's also a Afrikaans Boer patriot but he doesn't make everything a goddamn rally thing. He sings his songs and fades into the background for a while then does a new song and so on. He doesn't bring his political opinions into his music (ok he did at the very start of his music career but stopped pretty quickly) I want nothing more than the chance to speak to hofmyer face to face and tell him to his face that he needs to stay in his own lane. The only people that care about his political opinions and actually support his hate comments are afrikaans boere over the age of 60. If I had the chance to tell him that I promise that I would honestly, actually, very much do so. I would truly not give up that opportunity. Someone needs to give him a reality check. Even his son, who also sings, tries to distance his music career from his dad.
Dude is so irrelevant that I only ever see him on A4 “posters” randomly stuck to phone poles along with other artists with next to no following. He is so desperate to be in the public eye so he shouts hate and filth to attract the people that thrive off of it and unfortunately it fucking works
He needs a reality check and I would absolutely jump at the opportunity to be the one to do so. No hesitation. A few weeks ago I went to listen to Bobby van Jaarsveld and hofmeyer showed up singing My Kreet and Die Stem and he, along with some older afrikaaners actually fucking cried. I booed him then went and took 2 fucking shots of tequila and made a very deliberate point of sitting and scrolling on my phone (I was in the front row) so many Afrikaans singers I know have gracefully faded into the background and do a concert every now and then but he is just so desperate to cling to some kind of former glory. I can't decide if it's infuriating, pathetic or just ridiculous.
He honestly had enough to literally just live his life in peace and would highly acclaimed for the rest of his life but now he has driven away plenty of fans just to appeal to the idiots who would’ve listened to him anyways
