holyyy shit Nolan's Odyssey looks bad as fuck. So bad it's almost comical. Has this man ever seen the Mediterranean? Or at least a picture of it? Does he perhaps simply hate the very concepts of colour and saturation? Why does this look like it's Vikings but with excruciatingly awful helmets? THOSE ARMORS?

Thanks, I do not even care about Nolan 😭 I do not feel any particular way about him or his movies, some I like , some less, some I've never watched.

Unfortunately, this one sits at the intersection between my academic studies, my enjoyment of character design and visual languages and my being deeply irked by the constant dogshit American portrayals of anything mediterranean, so :')

Honestly the person condescending you re: “He’s making a movie not a documentary” pisses me off. When people gripe about this sort of thing in fantasy games it’s “having black ppl in your fantasy setting isn’t realistic” but when you try to highlight how bad the costume design and lighting is for Nolan’s Odyssey, suddenly we’re hand wringing over authorial intent and not the fact that the director is a boring racist white guy that employs people who use Gen AI to do their costuming lmao

I'll _disclaimer_ again lest I get sued out of my last 20 euros: AI is just an allegation, we don't know, while the fact that it aesthetically looks like some AI generated stuff you see around is my personal legitimate opinion.

As for the rest yeah 😂 being put off by what is shown means failing to understand the concept of 'movie'. Or colour palettes or authorial intent as if understanding a thing means you have to like it. No, you have to understand a thing in order to critique it one way or another if you want to move past the level of opinion. Arguing for or against artistic choices is not saying "it was authorial intent" and shrugging. Like yeah, everything is authorial intent I guess?. It means nothing on its own.

But maybe I do not want to move past the level of opinion, I do not want to deconstruct every concept that is being employed like I'm debating a point in a 30 pages-long essay for a visual cultures or aesthetics class, complete with quotes, notes and bibliography, because this is the internet equivalent of a pub where I am coming to chill and laugh at a minor thing I marginally care about and maybe have a conversation and move on, but. I just can't stand people who go around calling people dumb fucks with some jargon word salad added. Manners.
