"Oh hey, @cagenewman can you help me with this?" Navy questioned, trying her best to lift a piece of wood from one of the plant boxes. She was doing her best to lift with her knees like her father had told her all those years ago, however, she was struggling more than she'd expected today. "I was going to move this piece of wood over there -" she nodded her head towards of pile of wood that a group of people were going through to use in other places around the community garden. "And start redoing this poor planter box but I'm not strong enough to lift it." she exhaled. "I know you're a busy man, I'm sorry to steal you away for a second."
nickname(s): Cage, Cagey (but only by his mom as a little kid, although some childhood friends get away with it by default).
pronouns & gender: he/him, cis man.
sexuality: straight.
birth date: March 17, 1986.
birth place: Merrock, Maine.
time in town: Cage was born and raised in Merrock, although he briefly left to 'see the world', which mostly involved him exploring the United States. But he's only ever "lived" in Maine.
housing: out in the country.
occupation: occasionally works construction for Bardales Inc., but for the most part he is a business owner, wood worker and home restoration master (he hopes) at Creekside.
family: Cage is a member of the Newman family. He also has a son, Colton, who was born in 2009.
personality: One of the most hard-working, compassionate people that you will ever meet, Cage is a family guy at heart. His son means the world to him, and he would do anything to provide for and protect him. He can overdo it sometimes, having been hauled home by his big brother from a few parties, but has mellowed out in his ‘old age’ as he puts it. He’s a bit of a flirt and loves a good adventure, longing for a long bike ride up the coast over a trip to a resort, and you can find him more often gardening out back than binge watching TV.
BACKGROUND / BIO
Trigger warnings: parent death.
Cage Lucas Newman was born on March 17, 1986 into what was once a small family -- his mother, father and big brother. That changed over the years, but the love that remained between them all did not. The Newmans were known for their blueberry farm in Merrock, and spend their summers working shoulder to shoulder harvesting the crop for local farmers markets and to be sent out to stores around the area. His mother died when he was quite young, which made his siblings incredibly protective over baby sister, Clementine, who never had the chance to know her mother. He and Kellan, his oldest brother, have always been close.
A good kid for the most part, Cage did alright in school, mostly focused on athletics and shop class, both of which he excelled at. Although he was a huge flirt, he did have a quite serious relationship with fellow Merrockite, Cordelia Browning, with most people thinking they would get married and have babies after graduation, as was the small town way. Instead, he packed his bags and sought out adventure, traveling coast to coast and putting the skills he developed in that shop class to work in construction, building new houses as he went. While on the road, he met and befriended Lexi, the two beginning a physical relationship that lasted about as long as his job at that particular site did before he moved on to the next. Not long after, he ran into some financial hardships and was forced to return home, after a lot of begging and pleading from his father and older brother.
The inevitable happened when Cage returned to Merrock; Lexi showed up at his doorstep, telling him that she was pregnant, the baby was his, and he needed to help. Although they made a solid go of it at home on his family's blueberry farm, welcoming Colton Lee -- affectionately known as Colt -- into the world in October of 2009, Lexi left before his first birthday, leaving Cage with full custody and a number to reach her by in case of emergency. While being a single father wasn't the world's easiest job, Cage did his best to raise Colt in a loving home with his siblings and father, even settling down into his own new relationship, marrying a local girl not long after they met in what he hoped would be a whirlwind romance to show his family that he could be serious and settle down. The predicted ending happened, when talks of babies and really, actually settling down began to get serious, and the two quietly filed for divorce.
With his second failed relationship and attempt at the perfect family life under his belt, Cage decided to take off, buckling Colt into the passenger seat of his old rattle-trap truck, their only goal to see the country from coast to coast, spending the entire summer together. However, it was on the back leg of that trip that Cage got the call that his father wasn't doing well, that he should return home to spend some time at the farm. Although the diagnosis was terminal, and the future looked bleak, Cage returned to his father's side, anxious to make sure that his remaining time was full of love and happiness.
After his father's passing, the inheritance was split between the kids, with the estate being left to all of them to decide what to do with the land, and how to run the family business. With his chunk of money, Cage purchased a small farmstead just out back of the estate with a house large enough for himself and Colt (and the myriad of animals they had plans to fill the old barns with), and a shop space at Hideaway Market, opening a wood-working business that has recently dipped its toes into restoration of old houses and businesses around Merrock, determined to make sure that a lot of the original, classic features of their town couldn't be forgotten or replaced with the shiny newness it has seen in the last several years.

While being a single father wasn’t the world’s easiest job, Cage did his best to raise Colt in a loving home with his siblings and father, even settling into his own new relationship, marrying a new-to-town pediatrician not long after they met in what he hoped would be a whirlwind romance to show his family that he could be serious and settle down.
Fate has a funny way of rearing its head -- Cage and Cordelia reunited at a Merrock Rangers football game, beginning one of those up and down relationships that eventually ended in a dirt road dance, long talks, an engagement, exchanging vows, and a beautiful wedding. They're parents to Colton's son, Cordelia's daughter, and two kids that they've taken guardianship of after the passing of their own parents, and raise a whole bunch of farm animals on their beautiful countryside homestead, while growing their family and their life together.
