The honking of the car horn as the signal on the crosswalk turned simultaneously nearly made Navy jump out of her skin. Crossing the street, tossing the car a wave she shook her head as the grin she'd forced had fallen; she was clearly irritated. Yet, as she stood on the opposite sidewalk, her own heartbeat beating a little faster than she'd anticipated she sighed, but not before making eye contact with @jj-hayes. "Oh, JJ, hi." she smiled, offering him a wave. "I will say it's nice to see a familiar face; that car was clearly very irritated that I was walking when I was supposed to and it nearly ruined my entire day if I'm being honest."

"Alright, good," he let out a laugh at her promise, knowing that Navy was a very capable woman, but also knowing that those saws and major tools could go rogue in a heartbeat, ended up causing a few disasters now and then. He had lived through his own fair share of near misses, after all. One didn't spend most of their adult life working in construction and escape without a mishap now and then. Still, he had all of his limbs, he couldn't complain. "Painting is my least favorite part," he admitted with a scrunch of his nose, "it's almost always something that we shop out when we're working on a house, painting Ronan's nursery was not my favorite day on the job, but worth it." After all, he was proud of the way that the nursery turned out, happy with how much work had gone into it. Nodding his head when Navy talked about color preferences, he gestured towards the painting area, "I think they have some good weatherproofing stuff, too." Which was probably a good idea when spring could bring a lot of rain and… well, he knew how much havoc that could wreak on wood, especially when it was around dirt and mud so often. "Maybe you could talk Sadie into taking up a garden?" he suggested, letting his head fall to a tilt. "Y'know, convince her that she would love spending time getting dirt under her nails, spiders running across her hands now and then," he ended up laughing as he said it, knowing that it was probably going to be a hard sale for any kid, unless they really, really did like getting dirty. And there weren't a lot of those, these days. But, throw in the promise of an allowance, maybe… "I farm some of it out," he admitted, "a couple of fields out back, a local guy plants corn and grows crop for straw. Then a lot of it is woods, and to be honest, a good chunk of our yard… I just let it go to seed, become fields, sprinkle wild flowers, the girls love it."

Navy wasn't confident when it came to tools and the power behind them, but she certainly had worked with enough of them growing up to know that - at the end of the day anyways - she could saw some wood and measure it. Not in that order of course. That would be a nightmare. And likely why the 'measure twice cut once' rule became a thing to begin with. "I find painting therapeutic." she admitted. "Messy, sure." she nodded. "In the same sense that I find the plants on porches look beautiful in bloom but getting them there isn't exactly my favorite thing. I love painting, though." he stated. "I hadn't thought about the sealant though." she admitted, eyes focusing on the planter box they'd been working on and then back at Cage. She had to admit, she'd admired the work that Cage did on a daily basis. Having that much property with all the things they were taking care of - kids, animals, plants - was overwhelming for even Navy to think about. Yet he and Cordelia made it look easy. Something she herself could never do. "That's smart though, to farm out part of the land." she nodded. "Do you guys get to benefit from that as well? Like get corn or hay?"

Kenzie knew that most kids didn't know what they wanted to dedicate their lives to by age ten. And that hobbies didn't usually turn into careers. That was just her unique path. "Hopefully something that doesn't have really early start times... like...rowing or whatnot." Wasn't that the one where they got up before dawn? No, Kenzie hoped her future kids enjoyed indoor sports like dance or karate. But she supposed her father probably had similar feelings about her choices when she asked to leave home as a pre-teen. "So, anything going on with you?" She asked, shifting gears slightly.

"I love my kid, don't get me wrong -" Navy started, knowing that she would, in fact, be adding a 'but' to that sentence. "But my biggest prayer most days is that Sadie will always be the girl that loves sleeping in when she's not going to school and enjoy activities that require slow mornings." she laughed. "I'd never discourage her, but I really hope that she's not the kid that grows up to be into things that start before the sunrise." Be her luck Sadie would get into rowing. At Kenzie's question, Navy shook her head. "Going through my clothes as of recently if we're being honest." Navy sighed. "I've been trying to rotate out summer and winter and vice versa plus put things away for Sadie if she ever wants it when I don't wear it anymore, but it's hard." she laughed. "Aside from that just adulting." she exhaled, almost groaning. "Nothing that I would like to do." she admitted with a laugh. "What about you? You look gorgeous by the way." A compliment; not that Navy had ever thought Kenzie wasn't gorgeous, Navy just liked to remind her from time to time that she thought so.

Elena smiled at the thought, knowing that it was never a bad idea to tell the people in your life how important they were to you, how much they mattered to you. And how much they had inspired you, too. Since her grandmother had moved into the nursing home in town, Elena had made it a goal to stay as connected to her as possible and, of course, reminding her of how special she was, and how much she had shaped her into the woman that she was that very day. "That's honestly what matters the most, is doing something that makes you feel good and makes you happy. As long as you do that, and can achieve that goal, the rest falls into place," which was the truth. Life was too short to spend time doing everything else, if it wasn't something that brought you any bit of happiness. "Makes sense! I try not to carve my pumpkins too early, either, otherwise you end up having a sad, wilted looking jack-o-lantern before Halloween even gets here," which was… well, not the best feeling in the world, walking outside to see your mess of a decoration on the front step, looking pathetic to anyone out trick-or-treating. "Oh, wow! Did you end up using them afterwards, like to make pies or roast the seeds or anything?"

"I agree." Navy nodded, offering the other a small smile. "Finding something that makes people happy is a lot harder to do these days than not." she stated, exhaling. "So if someone can accomplish that, it's often times the rest of life does seem to fall into place." It was nice to talk with someone that seemed to agree. "No one likes sad looking porches or jack-o-lanterns." she laughed. "That's why you'll catch me at the local floral shop every beginning of season to get the seasonal items and carrying my totes of decor to the front porch. I'll also probably be drenched in sweat by the end of it because those totes are entirely too heavy for me to lift alone but I am in fact an independent woman." she laughed. The question about the pumpkins and what she did with them afterwards made her nod. "I actually did. Roasted the seeds, attempted to make some pumpkin in the same way you'd prepare butternut squash to freeze as a veggie side but it didn't do well." she paused. "And I also made some pumpkin soup bases that are currently filling our deep freezer, so, don't be alarmed if you start seeing me on the street handing out frozen containers of it this fall." she admitted. Taking a moment to look down at the ground, the mess of weeds in front of her and then back at the other she paused. "You know - gardening always sound so fun when you get to see the end result which is all the pretty blooms." she paused. "But something about these weeds. I swear they're multiplying." she practically groaned.

Dom merely nodded at her words, a soft laugh escaping him a moment later. Obviously, she wasn't being serious, all of them liked to have a little time to themselves from time to time, whether that was escaping their partner or the kids. It did you good to keep your own company every now and again. "Oh, of course, and I would hope so," he answered her with a shrug. He didn't know how Candice felt exactly, but they were pretty good at communicating, so he'd always hope she could be honest about things when it came to the children. "At the moment definitely not," he said. "There is constant worry things are going to end up out o my hands soon if the benefactor gets their way, but hopefully that's not the case

Navy let her gaze meet Dominic for a moment, offering him a small smile. From what she knew he and Candice had a good co-parenting relationship, or so that's how it seemed on the outside looking in, but she realized in this moment she didn't know much about Dominic's relationship with his children as of recently, but she didn't really want to pry. "I hadn't really thought much about the Benefactor situation." she nodded, exhaling as a feeling of guilt washed over her. She was fortunate to have a permanent job being an ultrasound tech she was guaranteed to have a job nearly anywhere; she couldn't imagine what it felt like to have the worry of losing your job looming over your head. "We're all rooting for you at our house; keeping our fingers crossed that the benefactor does not get their way."

"You'll be better off in the end," because where all of those parents pushed their kids away, tried to make them be someone that they weren't, or someone that they didn't want to be, Navy fostered creativity and independence in her girl, and that would go a long way. "She'll grow up knowing that her mom respected her and her wants, and then you'll actually get visited at Christmas and fun birthday presents," alright, that part made her laugh, but there probably was some truth to it, since they would have a better relationship. And it wasn't a bad thing that they had similar styles, either, knowing that they could help each other shop or pick out different outfits for things that they needed to get dressed up for. "That means that you get to raid her closet when she's a little older. Although I guess that could end up being a little bit embarrassing for her, not that you're not very stylish!" It was more of a case of… teenaged girls never wanted to share their fashion sense with their moms, for whatever reason. Ashleigh could remember seeing her mom in clothes that she would wear, and what that did to her. "Oh, I love that! Sort of like… kitchen sink cookie vibes? You know, where you ask someone what's in the cookie and they say everything but the kitchen sink, 'cuz whatever they had around is what they put in them?" Except casserole, with any vegetables or seasoning you could find, and that sounded like a good meal to Ashleigh.

"I like to think so." Navy smiled, offering the other a nod. There weren't many things that Navy personally had as 'goals' of her own, but, being a good, loving parent was probably top of her list. And she were happy to know that other people could see that she was a good parent. Meant she was - in fact - doing something right. The Christmas part of the conversation made her laugh, probably a little harder than she'd expected. "You know what, I never really thought about how my actions as a parent would affect Christmas, but now that you say that out loud, I think that makes the whole thing even better. I always want to be the family that gets together for Christmas and if I knew I'd ruined that dream by being a not so great parent I don't think I could live with myself." she added. Truthfully, even if there was a bit of humorous tone behind her voice. "Yeah, that's a plus." she nodded. "And it helps me too. Whenever it's time to clean out my closet, I just put those things in a box in hopes that her style will stay the same and she can get use out of them too." she sighed. It really was a dream, being a girl mom. "My mom called it the 'kitchen sink casserole' actually." Navy laughed, letting her eyes shift towards the other. "We used to think it sounded awful growing up because we knew that only dirty things went into the sink - dirty dishes, dirty clothes to get out stains, dirty from washing your hands - so we always thought that it sounded like Mom was feeding us dirty food." she laughed. "Which sounds silly, now, knowing that we'd do the same thing with cookies and love them, but, yeah. It's become a staple in our house and if we want to make it healthier, we just substitute the rice for cauliflower and call it a day."

Xiomara stared at the wall of tea options, a little stunned. They understood tea, and liked black, green and herbal options. But that was just making it harder to pick one. "You know, I'm not actually sure what a tisane tea is, or if I'm saying that word correctly." Xio admitted, squinting at a group of teas that seemed to consist mostly of fruity flavors. They never got that deep into the world of tea - they mostly just knew what was typically available in backstage catering when they worked on tours. "What do you normally get here?"

"You know I was just trying to figure out what that was." Navy stated, arms crossed as she stood in line, eyes squinting at the menu herself. It wasn't that she couldn't see it, it was just that staring at it from back in the spot she was standing in line it was all kind of running together and the brief descriptions and titles didn't seem to match up. "I've never been disappointed with a green tea." she added. "The citrus green tea is good hot or iced, but the chai tea over oat milk is also really good." she paused. "Those are the only two I've tried but so far I have no complaints."

The newborn scrunch is one of the best things but it usually is gone by three months and here we are nearly 3 months and Ronan officially does not scrunch anymore. It's the saddest thing my heart has experienced as of late. I've definitely cried but that's okay, we all go through those moments. He doesn't do the scrunch but he does love a good snuggle regardless. You know I'm happy to let you watch the baby I'm far more calm about it this going around compared to when I had Rosalyn. Especially if it means I can get a nap. Don't worry we have the boys that can do all of that we wouldn't put you to work. Baltimore for football, he's able to probably end up in a starting position at some point. Major isn't decided but he's looking forward to his first year classes. Had his video chat to go over them with an advisor and is all signed up.

"Oh no. I mean, I know it ends sooner rather than later because babies don't keep, but, I was hoping for your sake he'd keep that newborn scrunch until he graduated high school. Or at least until he was too big to do it comfortably against your chest. It always feels bittersweet when they do something new; you want them to grow but seeing them do something they don't anymore is always heartbreaking. Or not do something they did, like the scrunch." It broke her heart for her best friend. "I'll be sure to come over at least once a week just to give you the chance to sleep. But I'll call first, don't worry. I know better than to just show up. I'm sure it does feel way easier the second time though. And it helps that Cage is great too; you have the help you needed with Rosalyn now." she paused. "I'm happy for him though. That's an amazing opportunity."

"I know you have," he tilted his head ever so slightly, getting almost a different angle to look at her, always in awe of her. "Great shoes do help, but babe soon they're not going to be enough," he kept his hands upon her back, rubbing it gently, something to either soothe her or himself, he wasn't sure. Talking shop at home wasn't his favorite thing to do, but as they crossed paths during work it was an inevitable part of life. Rolling his eyes playingfullt before pouting at her, he tried to them hide a smile, "okay fine, but I can always put one in my Amazon cart for later just in case." He could feel the way she leaned into him, his hand caressing her back but also firm so she wouldn't fall. It wasn't just an intimate gesture, but one that showcased how he'd hold her up, or anyone up for that matter. "I know, and I'm sure the dogs would absolutely join you on your trek to the kitchen," the two of the trusty dogs always following everyone around the house. Leaning his head back on the edge of the couch, he kept his gaze upon her as she reached for the remote, and he drew in a breath. "Hmmm, anything that I don't need to think about to watch, maybe some trashy reality TV?" He asked, bringing his neck back to normal as he saw her hand on her stomach and he smiled to himself. "Or," he looked at her, "we can look at our kiddo in there. I've got a portable sonograohy machine I've been meaning to try. Now I've got the best reason to."

As he 'argued' that soon enough shoes wouldn't help, Navy nodded. "I know." she exhaled. "And I can't say I won't borrow a chair from the x-ray room to roll around in when that happens." she smiled, hand instinctively moving to rest against her stomach, which had barely started to show at this point. They'd always said that the second kid began to show 'faster' and while Navy was happy to be able to see she was in fact growing a tiny human, but she couldn't help but compare it to her first pregnancy where she'd barely been showing at what felt like twenty weeks. "By all means put it in the cart. Save yourself the hassle of having to find it later whenever I wake up at three in the morning for a bathroom break and am sad that we don't have cold beverages within hands reach." she laughed, leaning forward to press her forehead to the part of his body closest to her, which just happened to be his shoulder. "They would, which means Sadie would also be awake." she admitted. "She's turned into quite the light sleeper in the last couple years." Not so light that they had to be extra careful, but, light enough that the sound of her door being opened would wake her instantly. "Especially because you know Sailor would be right there to wake her up the second she realized she wasn't already awake." she admitted with a sigh though she laughed, knowing he'd know she were right. "You had me at trashy reality tv." she smiled, nodding and repositioning herself on the couch to be able to see the television more. She'd turned it on, adjusting the volume and finding one of their favorites on a streaming service when he suggested they could see their baby. "Wait, really?" she asked, eyes widening and then filling with tears at the thought. "Can we?" she smiled, nodding. "Is that the perks of shacking up with a doctor? We get to see our nugget whenever we want to?"

"I don't know about you, but I feel like I understand more and more each day," she said with a warm laugh. But there was a lot of truth to it. There were so many things that she scoffed about growing up, didn't think she would ever really understand or enjoy… until she did. And then everything changed. She got older, or at the very least, more mature. And realized how important it was to slow down and really, actually enjoy the little things. And ever since her abuela had entered North Shore and the house became hers, Elena knew that she needed to enjoy that life even more. "Hey, it doesn't have to be magazine worthy to be good," she assured her, "it just needs to produce good fruits and veggies and be something you enjoy doing." And eventually, sure if you worked at it hard enough, there was a good chance that it might end up that way, since a lot of times… a little tender, loving care went a long way towards making something great, even when talking about gardens. "Oh yeah?" she grinned, "do you carve the pumpkins, too? I always feel so bad when I grow them in my garden just to basically butcher them for a few weeks in October, but it's so much fun!" And it was so hard to say no to having fun with them. "Oh, very much so. A lot of herbs have scents that they hate, so it's sort of a double whammy, you know? Keeps the pests out, but also gives us something that we can cook with."

"Definitely." Navy laughed. And she did. The older she got, the more she'd have learned that being an adult and the things her parents did just made more sense. Even things she'd once questioned. "I need to remember to tell my mom just how much I appreciate her." she laughed. And while the laugh was genuine, the comment hadn't meant to be funny. She really had grown to admire her mother more and more the older she got. "We haven't branched out as much on the fruits and veggies aspect as the floral arrangement part, but, it does the house justice. and it makes me happy to look at it, so, I can't complain about that." she laughed. "If I want magazine worthy I guess at some point I'll get there though I'm not so sure that I want that." she laughed. It was the other's question that made her shake her head. "I do carve pumpkins but those are usually a separate pumpkins; and those are done the week before Halloween where as the rest of the pumpkin decor gets put out beginning of October." she laughed. "Anything to make it look homey for the season without doing too much work; I think last year I bought an entire trunk full of pumpkins."

Kenzie couldn't help the chuckle when Navy said that Bradley would probably agree to whatever their daughter asked for. That seemed about right. "I won't hold it against her if she doesn't stick with it." Kids would be kids, their interests came and went, and while Kenzie definitely had the kids who had stuck with her classes for several years, each enrolment meant a bunch of new faces. "I can handle it, I promise." Kenzie was getting pretty good at dealing with kids now.

"I won't either." she nodded. "I want her to be involved in something and I would love for her to love the first thing she tries, but, I know that that's not always the case. So if she decides dance isn't something she liked, I guess I'll keep trying until I find something she does enjoy. I think it's important. Both developmentally and socially." It was only as the other admitted that she could handle it that Navy let herself smile a little wider. "I have no doubt that you can." she smiled widely. "I'll let you know; you'll be first on my contact list if Bradley and Sadie both say yes."

This was the kind of work that Cage was used to; getting his hands dirty, being unafraid to put in a little bit of effort. Was he going to work up a sweat and head home covered in dirt and dust? Of course, but that just meant that he had earned a hot shower and an even hotter cup of coffee while sprawled out on the couch, probably with his son laying on his chest. And besides, he was happy to help out with something that would contribute to their community all summer long. Especially right now, when people in town were tense, worried about the future, wondering what was going to happen with the Benefactor and the proposed resort that could be coming their way. Hopefully not, but… life had a funny way of not letting you have a choice with some things. "Promise you won't take your arm off?" he asked, doing his best to hold back a laugh as Navy said that she could saw the boards, but he knew that she was fully capable. "Painting it now would probably be a good idea. I'd measure and cut first, then paint, that way you're not trying to paint around -- or over -- all of the grass," he pointed to the garden boxes that everyone was trying to work on, sometimes running into plants or dirt or whatever else they were coming up against. "Good variety," he smiled, nodding his head, "since we bought the farm, we have a big garden, greenhouse and everything, I want to plant a little bit of everything I think. And you know how much Cordelia likes to be in the kitchen, and I love to grill, so we'll go through a lot of food," plus, all those Newman family get togethers, they basically needed to feed a small army. "It does. You don't realize how worn down everything gets during the off season."

Navy wasn't the kind of person that hated being outside - she'd grown up doing as much as she could to help her family through the years - but she much preferred digging through boxes in the comfort of the air conditioner, sorting through whatever she could find to make her house a little more homey feeling for the season. Yet, this, doing this sort of thing in her hometown made her happy; made her feel useful in it's own way. "I promise me and all of my limbs will be intact for now and for the foreseeable future." she laughed. "Honestly, this is the easy part; definitely always been my favorite part with renovations, right next to painting." She listened as the other began to speak; nodding as he suggested measuring, cutting and painting it before putting it on. "Perfect." she nodded. "I just need to see which color people want this one to be; I personally would love a pastel yellow planter box but I don't mind the idea of just staining it if that's what the people prefer." She'd even paint every board a different color if that was what someone preferred, yet, she couldn't get too caught up on that thought because the more time that passed the more she wanted to paint it that way. "I do think a garden with that variety of food is always good, especially if you know it's going to to be eaten. We eat great food, I love being in the kitchen, and Brady is great at helping me use up whatever produce we happen to buy at the store, so I think sometimes the idea of having a small version of a garden would be nice. I just have a harder time navigating taking the time to do that kind of thing at home." she added with a laugh. "I'm glad you guys are able to make use of all your land though; I can't imagine that upkeep, honestly."

Where do I even begin? This whole day is all about you and for good reason, because you were made to be a mom. It has been the most exciting thing to see and experience, I am so lucky I get to watch you be the best mother to our favorite girl. I can't wait to see you continue to do so and see how our lives and family grows. I hope you e joy this day to the fullest and enjoy the gifts Sadie I got you, the necklace is from me, the cozy gift box is from both of us, and the clay bowls are from Sadie.

"I'm great! Happy to finally have some warmer weather and be surrounded by more color -- both in my wardrobe and the town." she laughed. "I can't believe school is almost over; though I'm happy to have Sadie home and having her to hang out with on my off days. We don't really have much planned. We talked about taking a beach trip this summer but I'm not sure that we'll actually make it out there." she admitted. "What about you? Any fun summer plans? Or even anything happening before that that you're excited for?"

Mean Ronan is already over two months old, officially, and I'm not really sure how I feel about that. Like I've blinked and this little tiny human is starting to be awake more, looking around more curious. The sleep I'm getting used to at this point, or lack there of, with cluster feedings. Shawn going off to college horrifies me in so many ways, for so many reasons. But, he's gotten great opportunities as a lot of schools but he's made his choice and I'm happy for him. As long as he's happy I'd bend over backwards for him, he's my son, you know? May not have given birth to him but that doesn't matter to me.

"It's kind of the saddest thing, right? I mean it's been awhile since I had a newborn but I remember when Sadie was tiny and she didn't do the newborn scrunch anymore I think I cried for an hour straight." eyes widened. "Please tell me Ronan still does the newborn scrunch. I need to get a snuggle in before he looses it." Another pause as she listened to her best friend intently. "I know you have a whole family there helping you and I have no doubt that Cage is helping where he can, but if you ever need the extra help, even if it's for you and Cage to get a nap together I'm only a phone call away. I'll come do whatever. Homework, dishes, taking the girls out for a couple hours." she paused. "I'd offer to shovel poo too but I can't promise you I'd actually do that so please only call me if it's a task you know I can handle." she laughed. "I'm happy for Shawn, and for you guys.
