Cain, in his youth, was Loki's personal guardian, and unwittingly became like an older brother and father figure to Loki. Loki saw him as a father, a hero; he was usually the only one who listened to him and stopped being rude when Cain called him out on it. Cain always tried to fill the void left by Loki's mother: affection and acceptance.

Cain understood what it was like to be denied by a father (or both), so he sought to care for Loki and give him a better life, but everything went downhill when Cain was exiled and beheaded… one more reason for Loki's anger towards Harald.

Loki begged Harald to save Cain, that he could save him, but Harald allowed Cain to be tortured and have his head cut off, forgetting everything Cain did for them… (just like he did for Asim).

Augur got the photos after bribing Finch (oc @goopus ) and Nancy to give them to him… and he doesn't understand where those lively, happy eyes went (now he only has a pot-bellied alcoholic and a lobotomized giant with ADHD… and yet he still loves them surprisingly)

Context:

When Cain was young and before his exile, he had a LOT of berries. As Loki's personal guard and a general, riches rained down on him. Until he was exiled and nearly beheaded (his throat was cut)... they took all his riches and EVERYTHING from him. (Extra lore: Harald ordered Asim (Cain's father) to be beheaded, and years later, Cain... Uh, bosses.)

Cain, after realizing he lost EVERYTHING (family, money, friends, his life, his position, his adopted son (Loki), his dreams, his purpose, his eye, his horns, and even a piece of his brain) and all because of his twin:
