So basically I was going through a marathon of old songs and only when I came across “This Love” by Maroon 5 did I realize how cairai it is. I mean, THE LYRICS ARE 100% CAIRAI, WHAT IS LIFE-
Other shippers: "Oh my god my otp hugged each other!!1!!1!!" Cairai shippers: "My otp had a normal discussion without trying to kill each other... once."
Cairai week, future theme
So here’s my last bit of fun for cairai week. It’s the future theme and mostly a whole bunch of fluff and fun. But hey that’s what it’s all about, right? Anyway, I apologize if there are errors and stuff, I didn’t have a whole lot of time to be super careful with my proof reading and I am DOG tired. Three hours of sleep and working a full shift at the hospital really sucks, like really.
What the Future Holds
Satiny sheets caressed Lightning’s skin as she slowly drifted in and out of slumber. It was midday and she was indulging in an afternoon catnap, something she’d become quite fond of over the last week or two. Occasionally she heard soft shifts and creaks from outside her bedroom and from farther into the house. Lightning knew that the noises she heard belonged to Caius, who most likely was moving around as he attempted to fix their dining room table.
Though still sleepy eyed, Lightning nearly laughed at the memory of the dining table breaking. Just a few nights ago, she and Caius had returned from a party at Fang and Vanille’s and had gotten a little over zealous in their after party excitement, one thing led to another and just like that, the dining room table ended up broken; not that Lightning hadn’t enjoyed the activities that had led to the table breaking.
From somewhere farther down the hall Lightning thought she heard Caius curse under his breath. He must’ve been having trouble with the attempt to fix the table. She wasn’t too surprised; the table had had a leg snap due to the combination of both their weight burdening it.
A twinge of nausea from the bottom of her stomach pulled Lightning from her sleepy memories and sent her scurrying out of bed and racing to the bathroom. After a few tense moments of near vomiting, Lightning took a few deep breaths and relaxed as she sat next to the porcelain throne. Her hands found their way to her lower abdomen, resting there; the source of her nausea.
She’d been fighting with nausea each day for the last week or so. Most of the time her nausea and the occasional vomiting seemed to stick to the AM hours but sometimes she’d end up throwing up her lunch or fighting back bile at dinner time. It was a very recent affliction, one she was both nervous and excited about.
After she’d struggled with morning sickness for several days in a row, Lightning had finally mustered up her courage and taken a pregnancy test. She wasn’t really surprised when it came back positive, however she didn’t exactly feel elated at the idea either. What kind of mother would she make? When she’d been with Hope all those centuries ago in the old world, she hadn’t exactly been an ideal role model, and while she’d essentially raised Serah she had done it under great strain and wasn’t exactly sure that one could consider her upbringing of Serah as well done. Though Serah had turned out well enough, although Lightning imagined that was mostly because Serah was such a resilient and strong person. What burdened her more than her own thoughts of motherhood however, were what Caius would think of it…could he handle being a father; acting as a guardian to his own child and not losing his mind if something bad happened to their child?
Lightning pushed those thoughts away and slowly rose from her place by the toilet. She’d managed to brush off her episodes of nausea and vomiting as a stomach flu and had managed to convince Caius that her increased fatigue was due to stress at work…but she knew that he suspected something and knew that she would need to admit her pregnancy to him sooner than later. He was her husband after all, and this was their child.
As Lightning pushed the door to the bathroom open and stepped in the bedroom, she jumped in alarm as she saw Caius standing there, watching her. His expression was neutral, revealing nothing of what he might be thinking.
“You scared me,” Lightning admitted. She briefly wondered how he’d managed to hold onto his skills for stealth and silence.
“Are you alright?” Caius asked, his voice deep and rumbling.
Lightning forced her most convincing smile onto her face and nodded. Before he could respond in any way, she moved past him and to the side of their bed where her jeans sat in a pile on the floor. After slipping into them in one fluid motion she turned back to Caius, expecting him to be gone but was mildly surprised to discover he still stood there.
“What?” She questioned with a raised eyebrow.
“You look a little green,” Caius observed with a raised eyebrow. Lightning was able to pick out an emotion in his eyes—suspicion.
“I felt a little queasy when I got out of bed…I’m getting over that stomach flu, you know,” Lightning lied, knowing full well she was being a coward about telling him of her pregnancy.
She moved past him to the doorway and began walking down the hall. Soft, barely audible footfalls echoed behind her. Figures he won’t leave it alone, Lightning thought to herself with a frown.
“It seems you’ve had the flu for over a week now. Aren’t you concerned?” Caius asked. There was just a hint of irritation in his voice that made Lightning stop in the hall and face him.
“Uh, no…sometimes the flu sticks around for, you know, a while,” Lightning bumbled as Caius stopped just a foot in front of her. His intense amethyst eyes bored into her, making Lightning want to look away but she knew that if she did that he’d immediately know that she was hiding something.
“Lightning,” Caius began and took a step closer to her. At his step forward, Lightning felt panic shoot through her stomach. She couldn’t tell him, not yet! It was too soon, she needed more time to prepare him for the news…they’d never really discussed a baby before and Lightning knew that his memories and love for Yeul were so intense it’d driven him to the brink of madness before. She refused to let that happen now.
“Don’t worry so much,” Lightning chastised and turned away from him only to feel a vice grip seal around her forearm. On instinct, Lightning jerked in his hold but quickly relaxed so as not to alarm Caius.
“Claire, please talk to me,” Caius said softly as he turned her back to face him. His eyes were softer now, vulnerable.
Lightning resisted the urge to frown at the use of her real name, and slowly met Caius’s questioning gaze. Once her eyes met his, she felt her knees wobble at the intensity of his stare. Somehow, he’d managed to master the smoldering look which never failed to make Lightning’s knees feel weak.
“I’m fine, really I am…it’s nothing, just the flu,” Lightning lied and averted her gaze from his. She knew he’d know instantly that she wasn’t being truthful.
Caius’s hand moved from her forearm to cup her cheek and turn her gaze back to him. Lightning felt a twinge of regret in the pit of her stomach when she saw the pleading look in his eyes.
“I know you’re keeping something from me, Claire. Please just tell me what it is,” he whispered and moved his free hand to caress her other cheek.
You can’t tell him, he’s not ready, an anxious internal voice insisted as Lightning continued to stare into those intense, bottomless pools of amethyst beauty.
Lightning lowered her eyes and sighed. “I’m pregnant, my love.” She felt Caius’s hands drop from her face and the quietest intake of breath from him. Fear made her continue to avert her eyes. Would he be angry or so shocked that he had to leave for a time? Sometimes when they fought, he would leave for a few hours to cool off; she was known to do the same thing though.
“You’re going to have a baby?” Caius questioned breathlessly.
Nodding, Lightning replied, “We’re going to have a baby.”
There was an awkward silence that followed her words and Lightning felt nausea twist through her stomach again. She dearly hoped she wouldn’t actually throw up this time; nausea was unpleasant enough on its own.
“Why didn’t you tell me sooner?” Caius asked. Lightning winced at the hurt in his voice and sighed.
“I was afraid of what you’d say because of your history with Yeul. We’ve never actually discussed having children or what it would mean to you or I if we did,” Lightning explained softly, her gaze still on the floor.
Lightning felt a strong hand on her shoulder as another captured her chin and tipped it up to meet Caius’s gaze. She was surprised to see something like happiness in his eyes…was he not angry?
“Light you should have told me! My past with Yeul will always be a part of who I am, but that is exactly what it is, my past. You are my future, and any family we forge together is an entirely new path with new possibilities. This may be a surprise, but it is not an unpleasant one,” Caius said, a light smile on his face
“You’re happy about this?” Lightning questioned, surprise in her eyes.
“Of course I am; why wouldn’t I be? This baby is a part of you and me, and anything that is a part of you is something I will love,” Caius explained as he leaned into peck her on the lips.
Lightning felt elated at his words. He was right; she should have told him sooner. Caius would always have a murky past but whatever they forged together in the future was their own. This life they’d created so far was all their own and would continue to be.
“You have no idea how happy I am to hear you say that,” Lightning admitted and wrapped her arms around his neck. Caius swept her up in his arms and laughed into her hair. She couldn’t help but smile ear to ear in relief that her pregnancy was out in the open now.
After a few minutes of sloppy hugging and kissing, Caius and Lightning separated and continued walking down the hall. Lightning couldn’t help but feel excited about the possibilities the future held and felt overjoyed now that she knew Caius shared that perspective.
“Did you tell your sister?” Caius asked, interrupting Lightning’s cheerful thoughts.
“Oh, no I haven’t, but it’s so new that it shouldn’t be a big deal that I didn’t tell her the second I found out,” Lightning said thoughtfully and began imagining how Serah would react. She felt fairly certain that Serah, with her twin toddlers and infant son, would be more than excited.
“Well don’t tell her if you want to keep it quiet for a little while, because you know if Snow finds out, then the whole town will know,” Caius mused.
Lightning pictured it in her head and almost frowned. Caius was right, if Snow found out then the whole world would know in less than a day. She wasn’t sure if she wanted to deal with that many people congratulating her on her pregnancy.
“Well as long as you’re by my side, I can handle it,” Lightning said and turned toward her husband with a smile.
“That I will be; for an eternity, my love.”
My Picture for the last da of the cairai week :3 Their little baby always keeps them awake at night.. xD Poor parents.
Wanted to draw something big, but haha my arm hurts badly and doesn't want me to ;_; So I've done something little. Inspired by Caius' curse that Lightning gets as he strikes her heart with some chaos thingy.

Cairai Day 3: Touch
Day 3, Touch So here’s a little poem I whipped together while I was at work. I apologize for its ‘blah’ quality but it was all I managed to put together for day three of our cairai week. So anyway, hopefully anyone who reads over it can at least get a laugh out of its cheese factor, or at least just enjoy the sentiment behind it. It’s a love poem for Lightning from Caius’s perspective.
Those eyes as blue as the sky, Her sweet Ivory, velvet skin, My fingers desperate to caress; eager for the high Her lips hiding a grin,
Hands brush through silky hair, Tingling with each touch, Forgetting all care, She is my crutch
Love, forgiveness, and kindness her eyes say, Temptation, want, desire her skin promise, She is my night and day, The truth that keeps me honest,
Just a touch and I know, Our paths are forever aligned, Whatever the wind may blow, We will face it with our hands entwined.
