early morning day 2 - old oc :D

i haven't drawn her in ages, but here's Emeryn, or just Em! I might've talked about her world before but she's part of an extensive mid fantasy world i've been building called Caitorus since i think 2021? some time after covid. it was originally a world w/ the main character based upon my friends (considering it stemmed from when i asked an irl of mine for a story prompt/sentence starter which was "Hi, my name's [irl name]." so.)

i plan on remaking the characters, most likely keeping the species the same while changing up the actual characterizations (because i. dont feel comfortable using characters that feel like my irls. also friendships change 😔) but emeryn's one that'll be staying the same because she used to be somewhat based on me. might redesign her outfit though.

as you can see. people change LMAO. i could yap on and on about Caitorus because its like. my most major writing project considering all of it is worldbuilding. i've got a whole ass magic system, a fucking historical timeline, a somewhat okay geography, entire species, gods & religion, and like. so much more holy shit. i love this world so much. i've been wanting to write an IF in this world and have a general idea about a plot, but actually getting there is gonna be a while. i don't know if i ever will, but it's a fun idea.

anyways emeryn here is a Creation & Destruction mage! there's 4 magic types in Caitorus; Chaos, Creation, Destruction, and Transmutation (along with a god for each type that collectively created the world yada yada.) emeryn is actually an alias/her new name, w/ ig her deadname being esmerelda brimstone. the Brimstones are an extensive human wizard family known for their magic capabilities considering humans in this world are known for not having an ounce of magic in their body. (meanwhile, all the other races of the world are born with a certain magic type)

25 - Caitorus Tales

Families

Families, otherwise known as Guilds or Companies, are various groups of people who have built a web of reputation through various means, some less moral than others. Due to the fact that they have presided long before the birth of the Council of Fates and the fact that some Families are deeply ingrained in the workings of Caitorus, it has been difficult to regulate what exactly is legal or not taking them into consideration. All Families have an insignia that represents them. There are currently six Families known to exist throughout Caitorus.

The Torte Family is an older Family originally basing in Caliaxo, but after GP was created, it had since moved to GP. The Torte are run by an unknown Faeir, wielding Chaos magic with a variety of flairs. They tend to reside within the literal underground, their own ambitions unknown. Their insignia is a pentagon combined with a hexagon, with lines extending out from each corner.

The Lumin Family is based in Indefes, run by a kastr gliscendes named Pori Vacula. They wield transmutation magic and are primarily kastr gliscendes. The Lumin are rivals with the Dram Family, seeming to be at odds regarding the conflict between the gliscendes distinctions. Their insignia is a white triangle within a square.

The Dram Family is based in Indefes, run by a vostr gliscendes named Somb Feraton. They wield transmutation magic and are primarily vostr gliscendes. The Dram are rivals with the Lumin Family, seeming to be at odds regarding the conflict between the gliscendes distinctions. Their insignia is a black circle within a star.

The Klepon Family is based in Palnero, run by a draconem named Slate Slither. They wield destruction magic and primarily assist in governing and peacekeeping within the deeper Pit of Destruction. Their insignia is a ring of scales.

The Love Family is based in Bolkrov, run by an unknown person named Pride. They wield creation magic and provide both funds and exports to the Silver Sun, Golden Moon, and the Gloriae Church. Their insignia is a heart surrounded by leaves and roots.

The Humble Family is the newest Family to make itself known, based within GP run by a person who refers to themself as "Magic." They are a very ambiguous family with little information known, only making it known that they typically fund libraries and art installations. Their insignia varies, but usually depicts a house with an eye.

Magical Landmarks

There are four major locations within the first four regions that are considered to be the birthplace and origin point of each magic. In Indefes, the Well of Transmutation. In Caliaxo, the Lake of Chaos. In Bolkrov, the Tree of Creation. In Palnero, the Pit of Destruction.

The Well of Transmutation is an unassuming stone well, always in the same spot, though the area around it is constantly shifting due to the immense amount of Transmutation magic there. Few people live near the site due to the shifting lands making it dangerous, yet those who do are known to change as often as the well they live near, willingly or not. Legends says that water that is drunk from the well can grant anyone the ability to change any one part of themself permanently. 

The Lake of Chaos is a vast, crystal-clear lake, never in the same spot as the last day due to the immense amount of Chaos magic there. However, there are an abundance of creatures and beings who live in this lake, staying in the lake even as it moves. None of these inhabitants have told others how exactly the lake moves from place to place. Legend says that drinking the water from this lake can grant the user the ability to control the very essence of the world for a brief moment of time.

The Tree of Creation is a giant, canopy-forming tree, forever having bright green leaves and creating a wondrous oasis due to the immense amount of Creation magic there. Despite this fact, very few sentient beings have actually been near this tree due to the Gloriae Church sectioning it off as “Holy Grounds” for Holis Ganalis. The few who had entered its vicinity before it was closed off in the very beginning founded the Gloriae Church. Legend tells of a fruit that grows on the tree once a year, capable of granting the consumer the ability to create one thing as they wish without the restrictions that Creation magic typically has. 

The Pit of Destruction is a deep pit in the center of Palnero, gargantuan, dry, and ruinous, seeming to kill the land in and around it due to the immense amount of Destruction magic there. Despite the condition the land is in, the pit itself is a surprisingly bountiful place that most residents of Palnero live in and around. Many houses and buildings have been built along the edge and walls of the pit, with the deepest parts of the pit only accessible to those who are either native to Destruction magic, the Palnero region, or who have enough experience with Destruction magic. Supposedly, there is a bustling city at the bottom of the pit, though those who have come and gone from this supposed city have said nothing of what goes down in the deep pit. Legend goes that at the deepest point of the pit, there is a pool of ichor that grants the consumer indefinite Destruction ability without the usual restrictions.

The Isolated Civil War

The Isolated Civil War took place in the Indefesiando region for 5 years, known only to those who were inside the region at the time. The whole region was locked in a bubble by Holis Ganalis, the Cinereous Fangs, and Bahal, causing all of time outside of the bubble to stop while Indefes continued to pass through time.

This war occured shortly after the death of Las Cadejos, with the Gods' killer only known to be a human with a sword that could only have been forged by a fellow god. The death of Las Cadejos has been kept secret to the rest of the world, all contents of the war and events relating to it known only by Indefesians (people from Indefes) and the other Gods.

It is unclear the true driving force behind this war, but those who participated in it believe that it was primarily between the recently formed Gliscendes and the two kinds of Gliscendes, kastr and vostr Gliscendes. It is believed that the death of Las Cadejos, the twin gods of change, created the two forms of Gliscendes, born from the light and shadows that burst from the Gods' bodies.

The war consisted primarily of shapeshifters, matheron, humans, gliscendes, and any other species trapped in the bubble when it started. There was no definitive "victor" in the war, only that after five years, conflict had ended, peace was mostly restored, and a new God of Transmuation was decided. This god called himself "La Renovacion", appearing as a fully grey human silhouette wearing a hat that shifted in appearance. Some believe that "La Renovacion" is the original killer of Las Cadejos, while others believe he is a shapeshifter who has transcended beyond the normal limits of his kind.

The Council of Fates

Shortly after the Split Worlds' Incident, the Council of Fates was formed in order to properly enact laws to keep peace throughout Caitorus and ensure an event like the SWI doesn't happen again. They meet on the longest day and longest night of each year, discussing events, be it past, present, or future, and establish various laws to maintain peace among the world. The council consists of one representative for each species, along with one representative for each region.

The Solem Gloriae Pinnatae Church

The Solem Gloriae Pinnatae Church - commonly shorted to just the Gloriae - is a church dedicated to Holis Ganalis. The church runs majority of Bolkrov's government, leading as a theocracy, with its head church dubbed the Temple of the Dappled Sun. While there are smaller sects and churches throughout Caitorus, Bolkrov is the region with the largest amount of practicing Gloriaes. It is run by an Eldrin named Gana, dubbed the Blessed Host, with the leaders of smaller churches called Shardkeepers. The church primarily just praises Holis Ganalis as the greatest god of the four, believing that one day the goddess will create the "perfect being," and that all other races are just prototypes. Though not violent in their fervor, Bolkron (beings from Bolkrov) Gloriaes are known to be more pushy towards converting others compared to other practicing Gloriae.

The Silver Sun and Golden Moon are two known cults born from dissenting Gloriaes for unknown reasons. They split under the idea that there should be one true god to be created known as The Gilded Eclipse, perhaps born from the knowledge of two other unknown gods. Despite their same motive, this initial cult split off due to their perception on what The Gilded Eclipse was meant to be, with the Silver Sun seeing their deity as a sun overtaking the moon, while the Golden moon saw their deity as a moon overtaking the sun. Both groups wish to attain what they refer to as “Eternal Solstice,” which could range between definite immortality to true deification of the Gilded Eclipse. The Silver Sun is led by an Avilis named Bastian Paradise Argent, referred to as the Sun-Gazed. The Golden Moon is led by an Avilis named Lucian Paradise Aurum, referred to as the Moon-Kissed. It is believed the Sun-Gazed and Moon-Kissed are two of a trio of brothers.

The Split Worlds’ Incident

The Split Worlds’ Incident occurred in both Gressol Providace and a portion of Caliaxo from an eldrin referred to as Akriboun. It is unknown what caused these events to occur, but witness reports claim that right before the split, there was an indescribable exchange of words before a bright, all-consuming void erupted from the ground. The rip in the space-time barrier spanned across Gressol Providace, Caliaxo, and the sea that divided the two. It hit three towns, two in Gressol Providace and a smaller village on the edge of Caliaxo, with a total death count of about 5,000 beings. Bahal, Deity of Chaos, made an appearance to control the rift and was later joined by the Cinereous Fangs to close up the rift. It took four days to keep the rift under control and later closed, and while it could’ve been a shorter amount of time if the other gods arrived, all knew that having all four gods in the same area would only worsen the situation. When the rift was finally sealed, all that remained was a deep ravine that seemed to glow a galactic, space-like color. There were also, surprisingly, a few beings on the edges of the ravine, beings that Bahal - who decided to stay to make sure nothing else bad happened unlike the Cinereous Fangs - identified as not of this reality. Most were severely injured, with a few of them dying, but the rest were perfectly fine, if not a little dazed and certainly distressed by the fact that they were in another reality. There were one or two humans, though the rest, completely different beings all together. 

Akriboun, who had caused this incident, fled the scene immediately and has not been found since. They had been labeled a criminal, though the gods had no input regarding this fact. Some time after the ravine, dubbed the Hiatum, was born.

19 - Caitorus Tales

Humans & Islands

There came a day when the four present gods of the world returned to the lands they created, visiting each of their respective regions before reuniting in the middle of the lands to reconvene and talk with their creations as a group. However, the moment all four gods were at the center, the grounds around them rumbled with magic, their collective presence causing the world to tremble. Before any damage could occur, a bright pillar of void, light, and looping null erupted from the tree stump that sat in the middle of the gods. The tree stump cracked and splintered, yet its roots spread wide, causing a gigantic chunk of land from each of the four regions to split off into a large archipelago at the center of the world. The gods fled back to their own domain, not wishing to cause the world they created any more harm. What remained in the archipelago were a large group of beings from each region of the world, and a new being crawling out from the cracks of the stump. There was first one, then two, then as the new beings were getting settled by the others on the new lands.

These new beings would come to be known as humans, a strange race of people without any inherent magic within them unlike the rest of the world. This lack of magic, however, proved to make humans more adaptable in regards to magic compared to the other races, instead capable of learning magic at a faster rate than any other race. They would spread throughout Caitorus, changing both the landscape and themselves in a variety of ways.

The newly-formed archipelago would come to be called Gressol Providace (GP), a place both mimicking the other regions yet incredibly distinct. GP would come to be known as a place to renewal, of new beginnings, and of stories yet to be told.
