Love in Every Place: A PHQ Reflects
As a Past Honored Queen, Majority Member, Past Council Member, friend (and to some, Family!) throughout my Job's Daughters career, I have always known love. Life takes us in many different directions, and sometimes that pulls us away from Job's Daughters for a while. But this is the amazing thing that I have recently re-learned. You are /always/ at home with JD's.
Recently, I was asked to be involved with the Grand Bethel Treasurer's reception. I, at the time, was living about 80 miles from my closest bethel, in a place called Yucca Valley. The reception was 30 miles from that residence, in Culver City. As this young woman is very special to me, I could not say no.
Between the time of being asked to be an honorary officer, and the actual event, I moved 500 miles away from my current house, putting me into the hour-long flight, or nine-hour drive from the bethel. My formal, shoes, stockings, makeup kit, and everything else shoved into a backpack as a carry-on, I flew in the day of the reception. Before I had even landed on the ground, I had text messages on my cellphone of "are you coming here before going to the bethel? When are you landing?"
But that is not the best part...though it did make me feel loved.
The best part was walking into that lodge in Culver City which holds so many memories for me, and seeing the faces light up as the girls who were around when I left saw me. Knowing that I may not have made a huge difference to some, but that I was remembered, and welcomed. Feeling the love and happiness that I was able to attend, and participate. THAT was the best part.
Home is not where you are. It is the feelings you have in places and with people. I could live in Africa and only come back to my original bethel once a year, and I know I would have those same feelings. And that bethel, as well as the people in it, (and hopefully the new bethel that I plan to get involved with), are home to me as much as my husband and three children are.
Respectfully Submitted,
