We're so excited to announce the CAKE (Chicago Alternative Comics Expo) 2020 Poster Artist, David Alvarado! David Alvarado is a Chicago based cartoonist. Growing up in the Chicagoland suburbs he was always drawn to cartoon imagery, the Chicago Imagists & hand painted signs. 🎂

Say hello to HERO BEARDS! If you were wondering what I’ve been teasing lately, this is it! Super Heroes with Super Beards! This is a comic idea I’ve been waiting to start for quite some time and I’ve finally had the chance to dive in. WHAT’s MORE is you can follow along with the making of HERO BEARDS on my #Patreon. Today I start posting concepts and sketches so you can watch these characters come to life. Swipe to see a lil concept of a possible hero. The Chicago Alternative Comics Expo is very excited to announce our 2019 poster artist, Marnie Galloway!

Marnie Galloway is a cartoonist and artist working in Chicago. Her first graphic novel, In the Sounds and Seas, was collected by One Peace Books in 2016 from a Xeric Award winning series. Other comics of note include Burrow (2016), Particle/Wave (2016), and Slightly Plural (2018).

Marnie is also a former organizer of CAKE, and championed the creation of our Cupcake Award, which spotlights upcoming talent in indie comics. This year Marnie is also serving as mentor for Cupcake recipient, Diana H. Chu.

Stay tuned for more artwork from Marnie and updates on CAKE 2019, June 1st-2nd at Center on Halsted.
