Waterford County Comhairle na nÓg at Safer Internet Day 2014
To mark Safer Internet Day 2014 two members of Waterford County Comhairle na nÓg who sit on the National Webwise Youth Panel were involved in the planning and launch of Safer Internet Day 2014 along with the development of a new SPHE toolkit on anti-bullying.
At the launch that took place in the Wood Quay Venue (Dublin City Council), Cal and Eoghan were given an opportunity to showcase Waterford County Comhairle na nÓg’s Cyber Code. It is fair to say that Cal and Eoghan ended up stealing the show, convincing Minister for Education and Skills, Ruairí Quinn, along with Council of State Member and Youth Activist, Ruairí McKiernan, to sign up to the Cyber Code. Cal and Eoghan were also featured on every RTÉ news broadcast throughout the day.
The day also marked the launch of the #Up2Us anti-bullying kit that will be used in SPHE classes throughout Ireland at junior cycle level. The kit provides resources to both students and teachers to devise their own awareness campaigns in school.
Attendees of the launch were entertained by Irish singer-songwriter, Gavin James.
Waterford County Comhairle na nÓg is the statutory representative body of young people between the ages of 12 and 18 in Waterford. The Comhairle consists of 30 members from across the county and work together to create a positive change in the lives of young people.
