calamity is coming in hot with a [love letter] for bai!
I love Callie’s confidence!!! I can’t get enough of BAILAMITY. And um. Speaking of hot....
“What is this?” Bai sneered at the envelope in his hands like it was going to explode.
“It’s a letter, you idiot,” Calamity snapped with a roll of her eyes.
Bai began to tear it open. “Don’t call me an idiot.”
Calamity panicked. “Don’t open it now! Wait until I leave!”
Bai froze and glared at the gardener. “Then leave.”
Calamity’s boots pounded against the floor of the shop as she stormed in the opposite direction. But she didn’t go very far. She reached the other side of the room and preoccupied herself with her collection of jars.
Bai sneered in her direction and projected his thoughts.
[Am I just supposed to read this with you standing right there?]
Calamity ignored him, pretending to be more interested in the contents of the jars.
Bai grumbled as he went back to opening the letter. From across the room, Calamity’s skin grew cold and clammy as she waited for his reaction. After what seemed like forever, his projected thoughts filled up her head.
[Crow… is this how you really feel?]
The gardener didn’t turn around. She couldn’t bring herself to meet the pirate’s gaze. What if he didn’t feel the same?
Bai called her name again.
[Hey, Crow. Don’t you hear me talking to you?]
Calamity bit down on her lip and shut her eyes.
Bai’s voice was followed by another sensation. Something foreign, yet at the same time very familiar. Bai hadn’t moved from where he stood at the opposite end of the shop, but Calamity could feel the softness of his lips against the back of her neck.
Bai walked his lips telepathically down the gardener’s shivering spine, taking his time, lingering until he got a reaction before moving on.
Calamity gripped the edge of the shelf, her breath coming out like a gasp and a growl.
“Yes! I meant everything I said! That’s why I wrote the damn letter, you… you…”
This time Bai had spoken aloud just behind her ear. He gently removed the black sun hat from her head and swept her midnight hair to the side before greeting the nape of her neck with a fresh kiss.
