Headcanon that the reason why Calchus was king of Daunia when Odysseus was in Aeea but when Diomedes gets there the king is Daunus is that Calchus was so embarassed and humiliated for having been turned into a pig and having the Daunians come pick him up that he abdicated and exhiled himself to live in the woods

while people kinda like lessen circes character, crimes and personality, she does have more lighthearted morale moments like she is skeptical of medea cuz of the murder of Absyrtus or in one source I read, straight up cries over his death. But mainly her dealing with an annoying suitor Calchus, whom she turns into a pig for not leaving her alone, but still shows him mercy.

i mean she still killed like ten bazzilion people but its there.

Odyssey adaptation where everything stays the same except Calchus shows up at Aeaea and you can faintly see him in the background of some scenes during the year Odysseus stays there: he comes in his boat to the coast multiple times, he gets transformed into a pig and then back to human, the Daunians come pick him up... Nothing else changes, the story resumes normally
