7. Favorite fruit: Blueberries.

8. Favorite season: Winter. Winter year-round would be ideal.

9. Favorite book: The Dark is Rising series by Susan Cooper captivated me in grade school, and I still re-read it. Tolkien’s works shaped my world when I was 12. Roger Zelasny’s The Chronicles of Amber (original five stories) gave me my first fictional crush. Terry Pratchett’s Tiffany Aching books are wonderful. I don’t read a lot of fiction, but I do read a lot of poetry, and my list of favorite poets would probably crash Tumblr. I’m partial to Italian women poets of the 16th century, and early Irish poets.

10. Favorite flower: Lilacs and freesia.

11. Favorite scent: The trace of perfume that clings to my leather-and-fur jacket the next morning after a Really Good Night.

12. Favorite color: Jewel tones of blue, burgundy,  purple.

13. Favorite animal: Birds. Especially swans.

14. Coffee, tea or hot chocolate: Yes. Also cognac.

15. Average hours of sleep: 7 - 8. I can do with less sleep if I can sleep during my body's downtime, but that doesn't happen often, being a night person with a day job.

16. Cats or dogs: Birds.

17. Numbers of blankets you sleep with: Velvet duvet wrapped around a feather comforter; velvet blanket; two sheets.

18. Dream trip:  The entire month of October in Florence, Italy. The entire month of January in Iceland. The entire month of July on the Southern Island in New Zealand.

Oh Cannes was a great look, that blue suit is still one of my faves, I’ll make a compilation of that, thanks for the suggestion! :)

How about the scene from Thor... his reaction to finding out what he really is? Or the scene after Thor is banished and Loki tells the others he was the one who sent the guard to tell Odin? :)

I don’t think I’ve ever giffed either of those scenes (the whole Thor 1 movie is really hard to colour, but I’ll give it a try ^-^)

If it’s alright to you, I’ll opt for the one like in the gif. When I made that gif yesterday, I was actually playing with the idea to make an appreciation post of Tom doing exactly that. So I think it’s a sign that you suggested the same thing, if the universe tells me to make that gifset, who am I to refuse it? ;) But I might just make the other one as well, if I come across enough material!

So what do you think about the "spanking/beating" scene? Both as DG wrote it and how the show portrayed it?

I wrote about this before… but my opinion is that in both instances, it was a cultural and time period specific reality that people were reprimanded that way.  Especially in the case of women, who were mostly seen as property as opposed to actual partners in life.  To have left something like that out of the books or out of the show—or to glance over it—would have been a disservice to the historical authenticity DG and Ron Moore are trying to create.

The thing here was that in both the book and show, it was clearly shown to be something that had to be done for Claire to be accepted back in with the guys—which is VITAL to her continued existence at Castle Leoch.  Jamie may not have wanted to do it, but he had to save face in front of the guys and Claire was only going to accepted again if she “understood” the problems she caused.  Was it abuse?  Perhaps it was in our 21st century eyes.  But I really feel we have to look at it from the eyes of 18th century person.  It was normal.  To Claire, though, who’s from 1940s England, it would be considered something very worse.  Which is the problem. To Jamie it’s what was done to correct people then.  To Claire it’s not, so you get them fighting tooth and nail like they depicted very well in the show.  Also he never does it again.  Never ever again in the books because of what happened this one time.  He’s a new husband.  Doesn’t know his wife very well.  Has to save face to Dougal and the others.  There are a lot of powerful forces going into this that explain away this one moment in the scheme of things.  That’s always why I’ve adored the change in narrator—now it’s Jamie’s POV instead of Claire’s.  And I think that’s important, and something severely lacking in the book since everything is from Claire’s POV.  We, as readers, get everything third hand.  Jamie lives through something, Claire explains it through her skewed perception, and then we try to understand it.  But in the show, now we’re seeing Jamie’s POV and, perhaps, can judge him less harshly than we might only from Claire’s POV from the books.

Basically I thought it was done very, very well.

I know where I wanted it to go five chapters ago when I first considered the concept. I know where the Hiddles-lover in me wants the story to go, and where each of the characters would like to see it end... What will actually result? I suppose that depends on the day. ❤

I've read all of them 4 times. They are wonderful. The TV production is fabulous as well.

I agree, I'm a huge fan of the tv show and I've been really excited to read the books since they've been on my to-read list for years.

However, if this spoiler pans out how I've been told it will and depending on how the show handles it will really change how I view the series.

Which I'm really sad about because I've really loved it so far.
