"average hermit has three arms" factoid actualy just statistical error. average hermit has two arms. Spiders Etho, who lives in cave & has at least six arms, is an outlier adn should not have been counted. OR Etho’s eight limbs (and eight eyes) are no secret, or at least a poorly kept one. Joel is convinced that Etho is hiding a dark secret beneath his deceptively large parka. Five times Joel almost discovered Etho’s “secret” and one time he succeeded.

Bdubs is fairly certain that his new roommate is a vampire. He can’t prove it, obviously, but he just knows it! In his gut!

It all started with the mirror. Ever since moving in, all the mirrors in the flat have mysteriously vanished, Bdubs’ old antique mirrors finding a new home very far away from where they should be. Upon confronting Etho, he got a very vague answer about “mercury poisoning”, which really sounds like an excuse for being a vampire. Mercury is a planet, not a poison.

After the whole mirror thing, which Etho still apologizes for despite it being an obvious ruse to garner sympathy, Bdubs has also noticed that he’s never seen Etho out of his room during the day.

“Sorry,” Etho had said apologetically, in that strange ‘Canadian’ way of his. “I’m a CE major.”

Computer Engineering? More like… like… —Creature Enrichment!

That’s not enough, though. Yesterday, Bdubs saw Etho toss out three garlic bulbs!! He used gloves and wore a mask, quietly discarding of the aromatics in the dead of night. If this isn’t damning proof, what else could it be?

It’s too humid in the flat, says a small note affixed to the fridge in a messy scrawl, don’t leave garlic in the fridge.

Obviously a vampire.

“You’re getting rusty,” Pearl says during their break as they switch sides. She takes a long sip of water, and Gem’s eyes track her neck as she swallows. There’s sweat dripping down her forehead and into her hairline, a towel draped over her shoulder. “I thought this was supposed to be a challenge.” Gem bites back to urge to lunge at her. There’s just something about Pearl that sends her into a bloodlust. Australian charm. “Yeah, well. You suck.” She winces after the words leave her mouth.

or: gem and pearl are singles tennis rivals paired together as a doubles team during provincial finals. surely this is a good idea.

Cleo glances sideways before leaning in closer as they walk side by side; they’re still far from the main festivities, but it’s never a bad idea to be too careful. Bdubs watches as a swirling shape slithers up the freehand sleeve of Cleo’s havah, pausing just on the cuff. “Howdy,” it buzzes up at him, a strange sort of resonance in its voice. “Hills here.” Bdubs waves politely.
