Clayton had found the time to change into his uniform before he had headed over to the hospital. Not that he thought there was anything wrong with the suit he had worn to prom, but he thought that official police business should be conducted in official police uniform. One had to look the part to act the part, wasn’t that right?
The Swynlake police department’s interrogation room did not look the part, however. It looked like any other room in the department, with plain cream and wood panneled walls, a desk in the middle, with chairs on either side. A tape recorder on the desk, a camera in one corner of the room, and a glaringly obvious oversized mirror on one wall.
All in all he didn’t think it was a particularly intimidating room, but maybe that was a good thing. He wasn’t sure intimidating was what he was aiming for right now.
He closed the door behind himself, which made a click as the lock settled into place. He took a seat opposite her at the desk, and then set about placing two tapes into the recorder, pressing the record button and waiting for just a moment to hear the tape begin to tick over.
Now, Clayton might have liked to let her sweat a little bit, see if it got any answers out of her. People often talked when they were anxious, trying to prove their innocence, or because they simply couldn't help themselves. But, unfortunately, there were certain ways these things had to be done. And if he wanted to take the case to court, which they likely would, then the evidence they collected here was going to have to be admissable.
For once, Clayton was going to have to be a proper officer of the law.
"Beginning of Tape 1, interview conducted at Swynlake Police Department. The date is the 19th of June 2022, and the time is--" He paused, checking the exspensive watch on his wrist. "--5:22am."
Christ, but he felt rough. What a terrible, no good night. Clayton cleared his throat. "Interview is being conducted by William clayton, Sheriff. Miss Blight, could you please state your name for the tape?"
