I'm not happy that the writers cooked up this fetid stew of breakup then move on for both of them over a long, drawn-out SL. I have written several pieces about why this whole thing was avoidable.
Of course it's avoidable. There's multiple storyline directions to take for any plot point that comes up. BUT the point here is... this is the path the Arrow writers chose to take. It's their show. As viewers, we have a right to be disappointed with the direction, of course... but we can't expect to control it either. So from where I sit, our choice is how we deal with the writers choices. We can be disappointed and stew in that disappointment, lamenting in a rather circular fashion about what could have been... or we can be disappointed but give the story a chance to play out, to see what the writers plan to do with the story they have set up. We can choose to continue watching or to put the show on hiatus on our DVRs or we can fix the problems we see in fanfic or read other people's fanfic or we can watch another show that doesn't disappoint us as much or... we can enjoy this show. I know that some of us are doing that. I don't mind season 5. I'm never gonna be wild about other love interests but I also see the value in it, from a storytelling perspective, and nothing so far as turned me off too much.
I suppose like there's multiple directions to take a storyline, there's also multiple reactions to those directions. And no reaction is wrong. Your reaction isn't wrong. Neither is mine.
