I Need a Hero || Calliara
Callie ran and every time she breathed, her throat was on fire and her lungs blazed so painfully she didn’t know how she was able to run as fast as she did, but she did, through the forest—the bare branches of the trees reaching out to her like hands.
She ran till she was back in town and then without realizing it, she ran to the only place she knew she could find someone she trusted.
She ran to Kiara’s house.
Because where Callie lived was big and empty and Mellie wasn’t home tonight and it was cold and all she wanted to do was cry. She didn’t know what to do about her throat, about the bruises that were on her neck.
And well, Kiara might not know any more than she did, but she didn’t know anyone else whose Hero Potential was so strong and vibrant, who could make her feel so big and important and special, almost like she was a hero herself, instead of someone just helping them out.
Callie wanted to be a hero right now.
She didn’t even feel like a Muse.
She felt like a scared little girl, like the time she had gotten lost from her mom in Sawgrass Mills Mall and she had run through the crowds of people and was certain she would never find her mother again. She felt like she was going to be washed away, then, by the ocean of faces and bodies. Right now she felt like she was going to be swept away too, but by what, she didn’t know.
She just knew the path to Kiara’s house—er, Simba’s house.
Now it was late and she didn’t want to knock on the front door and possibly be greeted by Simba or his boyfriend, so when she got to the familiar structure, she walked to where Kiara’s window was and looked up at it. Her heart pounded and she reached for her phone.
“Kiara,” said Callie, and she didn’t realize how hoarse her voice sounded and now that she was speaking it was hard to keep her voice from shaking into tears. “I’m…I’m under your window. Can you let me in?”
