Danny had dozed off on Anna's couch again but was shaken awake by the sound of his phone vibrating on Anna's coffee table. He quickly reached out to grab his phone, and the number on the ID that would normall of made him scowl and hit ignore had him sighing in relief as he answered it.
"Mom!" Danny nearly yelled as he answered the phone. "What the hell is going on!"
"There's no need to yell Daniel..."
"Your father's business just hit a couple bumps in the road, it's nothing we cant handle. But we're going to need you to actually do something for this family and help sort things out over here in San Francisco."
"It's just business Daniel."
"Three men threw me in a van, drugged me, beat the crap out of me, and threatened me and people I love, this was not covered in business school Mother."
"Oh Danny," Danny was taken aback by her tired voice and his nickname.
"I'm so sorry Danny. I really don't know what he did. They invested so much money in this new drug and it back fired, it didn't work, the company would have gone under if he hadn't..."
"Mom," 25 years of anger and frustration toward his mother disappeared at the sound of her crying on the end of the line. "Mom, we're coming to the Bay Area today, okay? I'll talk with dad, we'll sort this out."
"I didn't want you to get hurt Daniel..."
"I know," Danny sighed. "I'll see you soon Mom." He hung up the phone and looked up at Anna who had been sitting nearby. "
"Guess we're going to San Francisco..."
