More soul swap stuff
Magic exists and is well known by the public
Doing magic is available to anyone, but different types of magic cause different levels of corruption to the soul (always some), with necromancy and fire magic causing the most corruption
It is possible to use another person’s soul like a battery, but it has to be captured first. It’s very difficult to separate the soul from the body, since the bond is very strong. It causes almost as much corruption as it saves, and while there are ways around that (like using a second soul to get a third one), it’s generally not worth doing
There’s also the moral implication of forcefully ripping someone’s soul out and corrupting it, meaning any mages who engage in this practice are considered the most evil mages in the world
But a soul that’s already been separated from its original body is easier and more cost effective to steal, making the lads valuable in the magic community
Doing magic is the one line daithi and brian wont cross. Making each other feel temporary pain is all in good fun, but the permanent corruption of the soul is too far. They both refuse to do magic, even in self defence, regardless of how little corruption a given spell would cause
When dan does magic, the corruption is shared between both souls, doing half the damage to both. He also tries to avoid using magic, but kevin made it very clear that he’d prefer to be corrupted than dead, and gave him free rein to do what he needed to do if the situation arrised. Dan also studied magic before the incident, and has the biggest knowledge base to go on
Animals can’t do magic, meaning that sean can’t use the dog soul to do any magic either, not that he would want to corrupt an innocent creature. On the flip side of that, kevin can do magic with impunity. With no soul to corrupt, kevin can do magic with no consequences. That said, the only magic kevin ever put any effort into learning was fire magic. Naturally, he abuses the shit out of his fire magic, and will also use it for the smallest, most mundane things, just because he can. Lighting a candle on the other side of the room, setting dan’s shoelaces on fire from the comfort of the couch, the like
