“It’s a superficial world that we live in. People are judged based on the color of their skin, their weight and shape, their abilities. It’s hard not to be unsatisfied with yourself when the world constantly tells you you’re something lesser after it took one look at you.”
And Julius Said - Character introduction 02: Genet Ayana

She instructed the boy to step away from the door and now stood in his place, holding the door only slightly open.
“What do you want?”
“You to make me a charm. I heard you’re pretty good at it.” The compliment at the end didn’t seem to help since she replied with a short “Wrong address.”
As she tried to shut the door, Lucca pushed it open, making the wrinkles on Genet’s face align in an angry frown. “Ermias, God exalted. What a wonderful name!” Genet seemed to have heard Lucca’s hint out because she answered what they would have asked next: “He shall lead a better life than this.”
“Then help me or I’ll make sure he will have no more day to live at all.”
Genet opened her mouth as to protest but they both knew that Lucca had her in their hands now. “Alright, what do you want?”
“No need to snarl. As I already said, all you need to do is carve a charm for me.” Lucca sat down on one of the chairs that stood next to the small table in the kitchen. The witch’s flat was furnished quite nicely, the walls were painted in dark orange color, most of the furniture was made of dark wood and while plants were covering most of the floor, all kinds of paintings hung on the walls. “Right, right, what kind of charm?” Genet still stood in the door, leaning against the wall, her arms crossed. Lucca presented the stones they had gathered on the table. There were around fifty, black ones, grey ones and white ones. “Mrindel’s Whisper.” Genet’s eyes went wide, her brows shot up, surprise? Shock.
She began to giggle, “Have you lost your mind in the stairwell?” Lucca didn’t know what the problem was, they were glad they could mimic a frown so well by now that they could save asking. “Mrindel’s Whisper is one of the most, if not the most difficult charms to create!”
“The talking on the streets says you’re the best in town.”
“Depends on who you ask. What do you need such a thing for?”
The young boy had come into the living room again. “Who’s his father?” Lucca knew that witches couldn’t bear a child because they had sold their souls to The Thread itself in order to get closer to its powers. And without a soul one couldn’t bring new life into this world. However there was a way to bear a child: sacrificing the person closest to you. Genet noticed her son staring at the stranger from the next room. “Alright I’ll do it! But one condition: No more questions.”
“As you wish. You have three weeks.” God, how they hated the crumpled look Genet shot them all the time.
“I can’t just carve a charm overnight that makes time and space bend to its will!” “Well, then you better start trying,” Lucca darted their eyes towards Ermias, then looked directly into Genet’s green eyes and began to whisper, “or else your son will die through the hands of his own mother. Or at least someone who looks like her.” They left the stones on the table, got up and walked out of the door, hearing it echo through the stairway as Genet slammed it shut behind them. Within the next days, she would carve her soul out, if only she still had one.
