Good Morning!☀
He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city. Proverbs 16:32
Are you a theromostat or a thermometer? Does your situation determine your attitude or your attitude govern your situation? Are you easily frustrated by changes in your plans or are you able to adjust quickly without missing a beat?
The Bible lets us know that being in control over our emotions is far better than letting our emotions control us. Better even than having leadership over others. It takes great restraint to remain calm under mistreatment or when things go wrong. The irony is that it from this position of calmness that clarity is maintained and new possibilities emerge. The prophet Isaiah said it this way:
For thus saith the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not. Isaiah 30:15
Too often we choose loudness and anger to try to get others to do what we want. Real strength is not in bullying and intimidation. Real strength effects change from within, from a position of quiet confidence. No wonder men like Mahatma Ghandi and Martin Luther King brought about great change in their nations exchanging nonviolence for violence. By ruling their spirit and inspiring others to do so the world had to take notice and respond.
The calmest person in the room is always the most powerful.
