Il calzino spaiato #60

Oggi mi sento così. Un calzino spaiato. Ho perso la mia metà anni fa e ancora non riesco a trovare quella giusta. Me ne sto qui appeso dopo un giro in lavatrice che ha stravolto la mia vita. Aspetto che qualcosa cambi. Migliaia di lavaggi sono stati fatti, ma ancora nessuna traccia della mia “dolce metà”. Comincia a fare freddo e senza non sto vivendo come vorrei. Non vedo l’ora di trovare il mio calzino e girare il mondo. Per ora però aspetto, asciutto, il prossimo lavaggio.

Calzino’s story

This story is about the character development my cat, the aforementioned Calzino, went through in the last year. 

Calzino is one of a group of 5 kittens that over a year ago I found in my garden. The kitties were overall friendly and I believed them to be just 4 since Calzino was the last to show up at my door. Few days passed since they first came to visit and at one glance one could see how frightful of a kitten Calzino was.  She wouldn’t let me get near her without her running away scared: I had to leave her food on the ground and only once she made sure a safety distance separated me from her, she would approach the food. Even while eating though she couldn’t relax, she would flinch at the slightest movement around her. 

It took months for her to trust me in her proximities and for a long time we could only see her at 7pm, when it was dinner time. 

After she learnt to trust me, she mastered the courage to sit on my lap, but only if I sat on the ground by the door, rigorously open so that she could run away the second she felt something was off. She would completely panic the moment I closed the door. 

Now, at almost age 2 and after being sterilized, Calzino peacefully sleeps in the house on any sofa, with closed doors and without getting scared at the slightest noise. 

She is a brand new cat and most important, she is the proof of how somebody’s trust is something we need to earn and deserve: only if we are willing to put our patience and effort into loving someone at the pace they decide, we will be rewarded with their loyalty.

 Love and trust can’t be rushed, this is what Calzino taught me.
