Leda is a Gorgon who grew up in Greece with her brother, Theo. They are each others best friend, and get very protective of each other. A human woman once held a sword to Theo’s throat thinking they were the same beasts from old tales, and Leda saw red instantly. She didn’t attack the woman once Theo reminded her of the consequences, and his assailant realized they weren’t monsters and let them go, though not before Leda threatened her life in multiple ways. They met the woman, Helen, years later, and Leda still hasn’t found it in her heart to forgive her. In college, Leda met a Gargoyle named Darcelle, and they fell in love quickly, still going strong. She loves that she has someone other than Theo who can look her in the eye. She’s physically strong and agile, and has a knack for photography, feeling that her social awkwardness lessens when she has something to occupy herself. (I think she looks pretty good! I added some definition to her sculpt and some extra color to her snakes in addition to her face-up. I loved everything about this doll, except that she didn’t have reptilian eyes, so I gave her slitted pupils.)

Stuff I made: Simple Minidresses

First of all I apologise for the appalling placement of my backdrop, I should have noticed that. That aside - this is the minidress post.

These all come from the same pattern for two basic minidresses by theUkelele, I found them on Pinterest.

The one in the middle turned out great, and it actually fits a lot better than it looks in this picture - the stand is causing it to ruck up around Frankie's waist, but mostly it looks awesome on her.

The blue dress is clearly made with the same pattern, just with a yoke added, and it would fit fine, except for the fact that there's not enough yoke, the straps don't come up far enough and so the dress is too short, with armholes that are too small.

So for the red dress I expanded the seam allowance a bit, lengthened the straps by half a centimetre and added 1.5cm to the hem, which produced a dress that was not only long enough, but generous enough that I could actually turn the edges under and finish it properly.

Simples.

Stuff I Made: The Ittiest Bittiest Crochet Scarf

Here is the very smallest crochet project I have ever made. I made it out of sewing thread and seed beads, on a .2 crochet hook, simply to see if I could. And I can.

Here is Petra wearing it. It looks kind of fluffy like that.

But what does it look like all spread out? Well...

Like this. It's basically a granny square with seed beads (yes, you have to string the beads onto the thread before you start, it doesn't make the thread any easier to work with).

And here it is in close-up, with obliging sunbeam.

I actually made it for Abbey. Whether she'll wear it much remains to be seen, but I do intend to make more of these. You wouldn't believe how many seed beads I have.

Stuff I Made: A Mistake

This dress was a mistake.

Can you guess why? Answer under the cut!

This is from the Angel Sleeve Trapeze pattern by Dolls Ahoy, I found it on Pinterest and it's supposed to fit Barbie. There was even a gauge by the side of the pattern so you could check you'd got it the right size, but somehow I still managed to print it at about 75%.

When I worked out - much too late - that my dress was not going to fit my Barbie doll, I decided to adjust it for Monster High by adding pleats, and that was almost more trouble than it was worth - four pleats in the bodice, four in each sleeve, in an already finished garment.

Anybody who has foolproof printing tips, I would love to hear them,

I misplaced the charger for my camera so these are just some snaps from my phone. Sorry for the poor quality! But I just wanted to show my ghoul in daylight. I still need to paint her tail and make her a wig (feathers, maybe?).

I've been calling her Beatrice, but I think I'm going to give her a punny Monster High inspire name. Please let me re-introduce:
