“i like one cop” ☝️
under the bridge s01e03: blood oath
“Take care of yourself, okay?” “Can't promise anything.” “Just try, punk.” Cam × Becca from “Under the Bridge”
Mood inspired by: • The Verve Pipe’s “The Freshmen” • And a scene from Enrique Iglesias’ music video for “Hero” specifically the part where Jennifer Love-Hewitt walks in the rain and towards Enrique, backlit by police/lights.
Important things:
1.) This series was difficult to watch, and utterly terrifying. Speaking especially as a BIPOC — BIPOCs are 50% more likely to be a victim of a (race/ethnicity motivated) hate crimes. And hate crimes targeting Southeast Asians are severely underreported.
2.) Further resources for Reena Virk’s case: • “Bloodlust Under the Bridge” from Dateline • “Incorrigible” E02.S01 from “Dark Waters of Crime” / « Eaux troubles du crime »
Both are full-length documentaries on Reena and are readily available on YouTube.
RIP, Reena Virk.
this has been making me feel insane for the last few days (in the best way) so i really do not blame cam for acting the way she does when she’s around her
So long CamBecca! May you get all the beautiful fanfics that you deserve!
A great ending to an overall story that had so much heaviness around it. I love that we got them, but that they also centralized Reena’s story!
Lily Gladstone & Riley Keough I’m playing the lottery daily to get you two back on screen together really soon!
Bitter Water - The Oh Hellos
so i actually live in the city where the reena virk case took place and it's important for folks to know that 1) victoria is NOT a small town (it is the capital city of british columbia) and 2) none of the show was filmed on vancouver island, where victoria is located.
in historical context, reena virk's murder made international news because it happened not long after the 1994 commonwealth games and in the backyard of the provincial parliament.
i don't know why they're depicting it as a small town - it's not - and though it was still different to be openly gay in the 90s, victoria was actually a pretty safe place to be queer (university town, very young populace, historically very liberal, had gay bars)
anyway here's some photos of actual victoria bc during the timeline of under the bridge
edit: response to an ask about the geography of vancouver island here.
blowing the dust off this blog to post my Cam / Rebecca playlist and then disappear again into the night .
