Ode to Camera Jibs

So something about video bloggers/broadcasters that gets them all excited over camera jibs - so I thought I'd take a look into these amazing things *Whisker's eyes sparkling* and see what the big fuss is about!

Well this is kind of a big one.  But the principle is about the same, there's a fulcrum point on which a boom is attached to, counterweight on one end to keep things smooth and make it easy for the jib man to operate the thing.  And the camera is attached to the other end!

So what do camera jibs help a person do?  From just looking at this one, it can allow the cameraman to get high shots, low shots, and swing from side to side in fluid movements.

We're looking to make a DIY camera jib that's motor controlled since we are our own cameramen.  Most on youtube are non-motor controlled sooo I'll update you on that as it happens!
