They don’t seem to try. As he said, they just kinda throw him in a corner and ignore him..it breaks my heart. As an interpreter, my job as well as my heart is in the Deaf community. Equality still has a long way to go. I could go on, but I won’t.

I completely see where you’re coming from. At least they acknowledged it again so who knows how it’ll go for the rest of the cycle. And hey, I love seeing interpreters as well as deaf/deafened/hoh people following this blog!

I think it's high time for Devin to go home...he was such an asshole to Nyle! 😡 I'm done with his immature ass. Great episode otherwise!

Yeah, I think he got carried away being his birthday (and being himself) and all. I’ve read comments that Nyle “could just have asked for his phone back” and “20 mins isn’t much” but we’ve been seeing the cast inadvertently fail to integrate him in whatever they do week after week. What happened at Devin’s party goes beyond this particular incident.

You can actually navigate through past episodes and see him hanging around, or showing a message on the phone to someone, and even speaking a few words recently. It all comes from him actively trying to reaching out, but very rarely from the others. It’s no surprise he gets so happy when Dustin and Laceytalk to him. If Nyle stays put - like he did without his phone - the cast just don’t attempt to communicate with him at all, which leads to his feelings of isolation and invisibility. 

We see him again reaching out first and speaking his mind on paper, and only then they realized what taking his phone meant. It’s odd that they didn’t show Devin apologizing at all. This creates an even weirder narrative now considering they just had the Sign & Dine activity last week, laughter and apologies included.

I’m sure Nyle doesn’t expect anyone to master ASL in the short time they have in the competition, but by episode 8 they should know they just need to talk to him to include him, ASL (or what they can of it, preferably) or not.
