Day One – Welcome Home – Introduction [1/7]

I think I worked up more of a sweat waiting for that first contestant to walk up to the door than I have on even the hottest days in Selvadorada but watching him walk over with a huge grin on his face set my mind at ease.

He was happy to be here, at least, greeting me with a “Hello, darlin’” before introducing himself as Jack Barrow and pulling me into a tight hug. I’m really glad he came in first. So genuinely friendly I was almost disappointed when it was time to move onto the next person.

Day One – Welcome Home – Introduction [3/7]

Kyler Bernal is possibly the cutest creature I’ve laid eyes on, and he sounds exactly like Beastboy from Teen Titans. The animated series, not the Netflix version. We don’t talk about that. I’m getting off topic. Sort of like he did.

He was a little awkward, like Jason, but came out with the strangest things. We started talking about the house they’d set us up in and he said he used to live in an apartment. Fairly normal. But then he asks me why they’re called apartments when they’re together and it’s been playing on my mind ever since.

Day One – Welcome Home – Introduction [6/7]

Myles Woodford was another interesting character. I figured from his bio that he was a little odd and when he jumped straight from introducing himself into telling a wild, dramatic story – complete with hand waving and crazy eyes – that assumption was confirmed.

To be honest, I have absolutely no idea what he was on about. And he was on about it for a long while. Or was it different stories? I guess he’s one of those nervous talkers.

When it got down to the final introduction, I was definitely relieved that the awkward first meetings would be over – even if I was getting more comfortable with them. Warren, it seemed, was pretty comfortable with it all himself. Comfortable enough to gossip about the people I’d met before him.

I quickly changed the subject to his archaeology degree in hopes of avoiding any awkwardness if he was overheard, and he told me a little about it before he went inside to join the others.

I was still giggling from my strange encounter with Kyler when Martin Aronsson approached me with a friendly wave. He was charming, and confident, and the conversation flowed easily. He mentioned that he’d been to Selvadorada more than once but never been into the jungle. I could understand why, but he didn’t know what he was missing. And I couldn’t tell him before he walked away into the house.

When Michael Creech introduced himself, I was a little confused. I’d seen in his bio that he was older, a lot older, but you wouldn’t quite guess it from looking at him. Two things that were quite obvious were that he was very attractive and very charming.

We really hit it off, and even though he was someone who would have a lot of stories, all he wanted to talk about was me. It felt, really good.

Next up was Dr. Jason Vernon. When I saw he’d mention his qualifications in his bio I half expected him to introduce himself that way when we first met. What I didn’t expect was for him to introduce himself as Vernon Jason.

We had a laugh over the mix up and I think it really helped to break the tension. I could tell from the little time we had to talk that he was definitely more intelligent than his introduction would have led me to believe.
