Quick Bio: Camilla swears the story of how her parents met and stayed together was something out of a movie. When her mother Floramaria (46) and her father Santiago(49) met, it was love at first sight. They met in South America. Floramaria’s family was visiting some relatives in Mexico when they two met out in a bar. She was from Columbia and had a hard time wanting to go back after meeting the man of her dreams. They wrote letters to each other about how they’d eventually see each other again and get married. They did just that. Floriamaria and Santiago married when she was 18 and he was 21. The couple ended up moving to Puerto Rico with one of Santiago’s cousins for a fresh start away from their strict families. Two years later, Floramaria was pregnant with Camilla.
Flora’s pregnancy was not an easy one. She almost died during child birth. Because of an infection, the young woman had to go through an emergency hysterectomy. This made her very depressed, because of the medication she had to take after giving birth. Her post-partum was bad but eventually got better 6 months later. This left Santiago to mainly look after Camilla until is wife was better. This made him very protective of both of the important women in their life. Flora always felt guilty that she was not able to have more children for Santiago.
The couple provided for Camilla to the best they could. Flora loved to cook, so she started out as a waitress then became a chef. Santiago became a butcher while also helping with a few local flower distributors when the couple moved from Puerto Rico to the states. They weren’t rich, but they were able to live comfortably, giving Camilla some outlets for her to be curious and adventurous.
Camilla found a love for how things works when she was very little. Since her mother was a chef and her father with a farming background, she was exposed to how dishes came together and how things grew. Her family was very outdoorsy. This combination sparked a love for science in Camilla. In school, she ended up testing for gifted classes in first grade. Her teacher noticed that she was distracting in class but had the best grade in the class. it was later discovered that Camilla was getting all of her work done very early and then making her friends laugh because she was bored. She tested very high for her age, giving her the chance to skip a few grades. She only skipped second grade but was often given fourth grade work to keep her engaged.
She almost made valedictorian in high school, but was beat out by her best friend. She was only a little upset about it a little but was ultimately happy for her friend. She followed what her friends were doing and applied for college for a science degree. She got accepted of course. After accidentally signing up for drama club on campus, she fell in love with acting. She tried to stick with her science path but eventually decided to be true to herself and go to acting school. She felt like for a while, she was doing well in school to make her parents happy. She wanted to do this for herself. After spending three years in college, she dropped out and went to acting school.
When Camilla graduated high school and went to college on a full scholarship, Flora and Santiago decided they both wanted to open up their own businesses; Flora became co-owner of a restaurant, being its head chef, and Santiago opened up his own flower shop a block away from his wife’s restaurant. When Camilla graduated from acting school at 22-24, both of their businesses took big financial hits. Both were at risk for closing and the couple might have been on the verge of losing their house.
The news shook Camilla, making her move back home to help get them back on their feet. The restaurant was being investigated because Flora’s business partner was doing sketchy stuff and Santiago’s floral stop was having a hard time because of the building owner and a few other things. They needed her help and Camilla was feeling guilty, so she moved back to help her parents out. She was working two jobs--sometimes three-- for a while to help her parents but now only works one now that their businesses seem to be doing better and the money is better at the hotel she works at.
Camilla’s parents are supportive of her wanting to act, but ultimately feel like she would have been better off sticking to her science degree. Even though they aren’t the most traditional parents, they feel like she isn’t taking her life serious enough. She missed out on a better life, according to them, for a silly hobby.
Camilla goes on auditions for commercials and small roles for things when she can.
She loves being outdoors and the beach. She’s girly and fun-loving. She’s a humble kind of confident but not always sure of herself. She a little nerdy and is resourceful. She’s easy going and friendly, but can be a little sassy and stubborn at times.
