Cabana is a truly magnificent publication, printed on high stock paper. Almost secret, the magazine focuses on timeless interiors, varied textures, gardens and travels, extremely elegant lifestyle and photographies of unique richness, revealing the obsessions of collectors. Cabana is the beginning of a journey.
Can a magazine act like Alice’s Looking Glass? Pulling you deep into the magical interiors of the most fascinating rooms on earth? If one could do it, it would be Cabana—the biannual magazine devoted to interiors and aesthetic living by publishing star Martina Mondadori, now on it’s third issue. It is so, so lovely! The magazine, which made its debut at Salone del Mobile Milan last year, is a wonderland of so much more than just interiors, examining textures, images, fabrics, landscapes and art through photo essays and expertly designed features. Mondadori touts the magazine as exploring “intellectual and emotional intimacy with buildings and their surroundings … the intense relationship of thought, place and the person.” Each feature design is inspired by the content, utilizing different types of paper, printing methods, and embellishments like framed boarders to make the piece come alive.
And if that wasn’t enough, each issue comes in a variety of limited edition covers made from actual designer fabric or wallpaper, including the classically wonderful Pierre Frey prints. I managed to get my hands on Issue #3, covered in Etro silk, which is one of 20 limited edition covers. As Mondadori said, “if you are going to do print, you might as well do it beautifully,” and beautifully done it is.
