In the town of Campdevànol (Comarques Gironines, Catalonia), they have a special tradition during the festa major (Catalan holiday that each town or city celebrates on the day of their patron saint). The town meets in the town square where there is dancing, and the dance's most anticipated moment is the one you can see in the video: at one point, the dancers stand in a circle and the boys lift up the girls. The reason for the anticipation is that the boys try to hold them up in the air for as long as they can, and people count how long they held them and try to do better than last year.
It's unknown how old the dance and its music are, since small towns like Campdevànol haven't always left as many written documents. It's well documented since the 19th century, but experts believe it's most likely to have its origins in the 17th century.
