Congratulations to Zagato's crown for being my new least favorite thing to draw.

Back with another Draw the Squad, since I've been busy of late. I think the base for this one is from Nemhain From Void? At least that's where I found it, if I'm wrong on that please let me know.

As usual sketch and bonus rambles below the cut.

There's a couple differences from the sketch, the most notable being Inova's ears. They looked weird when I tried to outline them, so I switched the direction.

Zagato's crown is a mashup of the one from the book and the show, I ended up fussing with it until it came out with something I liked. I might end up just drawing my own reference sheets for these guys at some point. Inova's and Lafarga's shoes are a particular pain to locate the references for, and it would help me feel more consistent. Also Caldina's jewelry keep changing pinks.

I didn't like the borders originally, but I don't think they look too bad now. Background probably should have been a dark purple though.

Also I don’t think I’ve ever drawn Zagato and Alcyone at the same time before. If I was told they were secretly siblings I’d believe it, I’m pretty sure they could be put on siblings or dating.

Rayearth Villians

I saw someone say they also enjoyed the found-family dynamic of the villains. I just wanted to put these images out there in case they haven’t seen them yet. Again, sorry about the garbage quality but these are from the 15th anniversary disc art gallery.

I like to imagine that Lafarga took the picture of Caldina and Ascot, and Inova took the rest that he wasn’t present in. It’s sillier that way. Also there is this one from the extra books.

I haven't seen Magic Knight Rayearth in so long & I was finally able to watch it again! this is the most beautiful anime ever & my absolute favorite! I feel like it's so underrated it really deserves so much love. ❤️💙💚 

I loved everything about this anime. the characters were absolutely the heart of the show. they were so wonderful, a lot of them were so fun, & some of them had so much depth being more complex than others. the fantasy world was beautiful. the overall story was beautiful & fun, but also so depressing. 

Lantis was always my favorite character. he was so beautiful & perfect. he carried so much sadness but was still always so kind. all he wanted was to spare someone else from the suffering & sacrifice of being the new pillar. he never wanted anyone else ending up like Emeraude & his brother. 🖤

the romance aspect of the anime is what really drew me in. love is portrayed as something so precious that can save the world but also brought so much heartache & sorrow. the tragic romance with Zagato & Princess Emeraude was so heartbreaking. when it was revealed they were in love & Zagato only wanted to save her from the burden of being the pillar I was almost in tears. it took death for them to finally be together in love. they really deserved better. 💔 

I loved watching Lantis & Hikaru slowly fall in love with each other but having such a hard time admitting their feelings for each other, Hikaru especially being afraid of her feelings for him. Lantis was always so soft & gentle with her. their relationship was written so beautifully. I was so happy when they confessed their love but so frustrated with how it ended. I really wanted to see them together. I need a continuation of this anime with the girls back in Cephiro, & Hikaru & Lantis reunited! 

also I loved Eagle so much! his death completely devastated me! he was such a good friend to Hikaru & Lantis despite being on the other side of war. he was a kind heart & a pure soul. I miss him. 💔

Headcanon

Caldina wants a big wedding.

Specifically, one of the big, elaborate three-day Chizetan weddings she saw as a child but never dreamed she’d be able to have for herself. But, since Cephiro’s powered by will and she’s doing pretty well for herself, when her and Lafarga get engaged, she realizes she can have it all, and goes completely overboard trying to make this The One Wedding To Rule Them All.

It’s only when Lafarga starts breaking down (because he loves her and wants her to be happy, but this is such a culture shock to begin with and she wants to do So Much More) that she reigns it in a bit.
