I’ve been really hesitant about posting this here since it’s not journaling or snailmail related.. But it’s something I love doing and it allows me to express myself just as journaling or mail art would! So why not! I remember the first time I did pottery at Camp Sunshine (a camp for kids with cancer; they are amazing). They had a pottery area and I went in and just.. Made a pot like it was second nature! Spun the wheel, molded the clay, made a pot. It really just came naturally to me. But I haven’t been able to do anything like it since then.. And although I can’t afford a spinning wheel and kiln now, I will one day. Then I’ll truly start crafting up some nice pieces! But until then, I’m crazy for ceramic dishes. LOL. 😂

For the past 2 summers I have been going to a camp called Camp Sunshine. If you don’t know what it is, it is a camp for people who are going through or have gone through some type of cancer. The writer of the song Jon, was a big part of camp, he was there when it first started back in 1982. He wrote “Georgia Gold” which is now the theme song of camp. My favorite lyric of the song goes “Give me one more moment, give me just one more day, there is no place else on earth I feel this way It covers the grey”. This line means a lot to me because when you are going through chemo treatments, all you can think about is if you are going to wake up the next morning. But whenever you would go to camp it’s almost as if you forget about everything and time just stops. Granite the one thing everyone had in common there is that we’ve all dealt with cancer personally, but when you are there it never comes across your mind. All I’ll say is that the odds were stacked against me big time, and so when I heard this song for the first time it instantly became an all-time top 5.

As an amazing week comes to an end, I have to reflect on the amazing teens that I met, both the fighters and siblings. This was my first time doing renal/solid organ week and hopefully it will not be my last! Camp Sunshine is the most inspiring place I have ever been and the friendships and bonds formed here rival nothing else. Thank you Camp Sunshine for an amazing session! #campsunshine #inspired
