It Was A Moral Victory For Canada, Anyway
There is not much to report from Canada's Centennial friendly against the United States tonight at BMO Field in Toronto. Canada donned special centennial blue jerseys while the US took the field in red-and-white stripes to chants of "where is Waldo?" from the jeering Canadian fans.
Despite missing a few key players, including midfielder Josh Simpson, due to injury, Canada put up a solid defence that the US could not penetrate. Julian De Guzman, Dwayne DeRosario and later Simeon Jackson put up great chances for Canada, but, with the exception of a questionable offside call on a disallowed goal, couldn't find the back of the net either.
The highlight of the night was the Canadian supporters' section, whose ridiculous and often amusing chants ranged from political to historical to personal, the best of which deserve their own post (coming soon).
Special mention goes to the American supporters who brought the My Little Pony flag with the slogan "teamwork is magic." Figures the American side would be full of Bronies.
